Sleeper TE gets Big 12 offer
All the attention may have been on his teammate, James Kirkendoll, but Round Rock, Texas tight end Alex Russian is now on the recruiting scene.
An all-district performer as a junior, the 6-foot-4, 220-pounder didn't have many balls thrown his way. But of the seven thrown, he turned all into catches and three touchdowns. Now, Russian has walked away with a Big 12 scholarship offer as his first.

"Yeah, coach Doug Meacham came by the school today and I called him back today which is when he told me I had a scholarship offer," Russian said. "I was very thankful and it was hard to believe. I wasn't expecting it this soon after the NIKE Camp."
Though Russian says he has always liked Miami, the Cowboys' offer definitely changes things a little bit.
"Both those schools are up there right now for me," Russian said. "I'll probably take an unofficial visit to Oklahoma State in the summer and some others. We'll see what happens with that."
UTEP and SMU are also showing the talented sleeper interest. Starting as a sophomore, he went on to be a very productive tight end for Round Rock.
However, he's not all about having the ball in his hands. Russian prides himself on blocking ability as well.
"I feel that I have the ability to move people around with my strength," he said. "My catching is also another ability that I have."
