Dallas (Texas) Woodrow Wilson five-star linebacker and Texas commitment Sergio Kindle has been working on a lot of things this summer. Sure weights and sprints have been part of the daily grind, but the 6-foot-4, 225-pounder has also been working on his other "game."

"Hold on a second," Kindle said when he was contacted by Rivals.com on Monday night. "I have to finish my free-style rap and then listen to my friend do his."

A few minutes later Kindle returned to the phone and was pleased with the results. Yet Kindle said when it comes to football results, he's spent the summer working hard at getting even better, which is tough to do for the nation's No. 10 player overall.

"I just came back from the track," Kindle said. "That's why I'm huffin' and puffin'. I've been working on getting my knees up. Doing ladders, bungy cords, stuff like that. I've been taking some summer courses so I can get to Texas in January."

The thought that Longhorn fans could get to see Kindle in spring drills next year has to bring a smile to the face of Mack Brown. Kindle committed to the Horns back in April and it's a decision he's not regretted.

"I'm glad I made my decision early," he said.

"A lot of people who had committed early convinced me to do the same and since I've committed I've gotten a few players to commit. Teams are still sending letters. Definitely not as much as I was getting before I committed, but I still hear from USC, Texas Tech, and Arkansas the most. I'm not even bothering with them. As soon as I get the mail it goes straight to the trash."

Kindle said he's remained in close contact with Texas assistants Bruce Chambers and Bobby Kennedy.

"I call the Texas coaches to chit-chat every once in a while to see what's up and tell them how I'm doing with workouts and summer school," Kindle said. "We talk about my plans to get there in January."

And those plans have made a lot of progress and look to be right on track.

"It was actually my idea for me to graduate early," Kindle said.

"I want to get on campus early so I can help my chances of playing early. I'm going to work as hard as I can work to get on the field as early as I can. I'm confident I can make an impact early on. My size and my speed, a combination of the two, give me an advantage over other linebackers."
