Gregory Rousseau earned his Miami offer in person. That may have made the situation extra sweet for the Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic athlete. Whatever the cause, though, Rousseau, a 2018 prospect, nearly committed on the spot.
Hurricanes’ head coach Mark Richt extended the invite personally after seeing 6-foot-5 Rousseau work out at camp and things nearly escalated quickly from there.
“He told me I received a full scholarship to the University of Miami,” Rousseau said. “At first – you know sometimes you let your emotions get the best of you – I almost committed right there. Then, I thought, ‘Let’s not do it this early.’”
Rousseau says he strongly favors Miami and USC over a handful of other major scholarship offers as things stand now. He hopes to visit USC sometime in July, but does not have that visit set in stone as of now.
IN HIS WORDS: “I still want Florida State to offer,” Rousseau said. “That’s the big one I don’t have yet.”
RIVALS REACTION: A Florida State offer could seriously impact Rousseau’s recruitment. In fact, there’s reason to believe the Seminoles would become the favorite if they made things official. For now, however, Miami is the favorite to land the 2018 athlete. A USC visit could help the Trojans, sure, but pulling him away from the in-state schools looks like a tall task at this juncture.
