Rivals250 running back Isaiah Spiller knows that the eyes are on him and his recruitment heading into the fall. After keeping a low-profile when it came to his recruitment during spring football, he is now starting to think more about teams that could be in line for official visits starting this month.
At the top of that list, is the team that he’s already been committed to once: Oklahoma. Also in that mix, are several teams that have offered him since his de-commitment from the Sooners.
Spiller said that he’s not opposed to making a commitment before the start of the season, but said that if he doesn’t hit all the schools he’s been hoping to before then, he’s fine with taking his recruitment into the season. Also on the shortlist with Oklahoma as visit targets are Alabama, Michigan, and Texas A&M.
IN HIS WORDS
On Alabama
“They have been telling me that they really only offer guys that they think can come in and play right away,” he said. “It is Alabama, so I know that if I went there, that probably wouldn’t necessarily the situation but if I did go there I would try my best. They’re really good, that’s a really good program.”
Difference in Alabama’s approach vs. other schools recruiting him
“At my high school it’s the same; we don’t mess around, we’re not all about that swag, we just come out and play,” he said. “I don’t know what to say I would be looking for in particular on a visit there, but I’ll know it when I see it.”
On Michigan
“I really like Coach Jay (Harbaugh), he’s really interactive with me,” he said. “I’ve liked Michigan since I was little, but I haven’t been able to get up there yet, so I have to see what it’s like. They said that I would have a chance to play early there and that got me interested in them a little bit. They’ve also been telling me that they haven’t had a big-time back in a while.
“It’s a great opportunity and a great school with great academics, so I am going to take all that into consideration.”
On Oklahoma
“Things have really been the same,” he said. “They understand the process and that I was just trying to see what else was out there – what the best fit for me is – but OU is still one of my top schools. I’ve always liked them, Coach (Jay) Boulware, Coach (Lincoln) Riley.”
“When I de-committed, we weren’t in contact for about a week, but they’ve been back on me and we talk every day now,” he said. “I think people still know that is a school I want to go to … social media made it seem like I was going straight to A&M, but I was like no, that’s not true.”
On Texas A&M
“I really like Coach (Jay) Graham, he’s a really good coach to me,” he said. “I am considering them pretty highly right now, but I don’t want to be too high or too low on one school right now and give people that I am going to one place or the other. I’m just trying to see who really wants me and really wants me to play for them.”
More on Graham
“He’s really cool, he’s really truthful and he cares about his players,” he said. “He cares about where you’re going in life, how to get there and everything you want to achieve – he’s going to help you do that.”
