Michigan added a huge piece to its 2021 recruiting class when Rivals100 linebacker Junior Colson made his pledge to the Wolverines official in an exclusive announcement with Rivals.com.

Colson chose the Wolverines over Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU and Oregon.

The No. 83 overall player in the country, Colson said that he chose the Wolverines because it was the best match for his talents.

"Michigan just fit me the best," Colson said. "Athletically and culturally."

Watch Colson make his decision and explain why he chose the Wolverines below.

WHY IT'S BIG FOR MICHIGAN

Colson has been a priority target for the Wolverines and holding off a strong charge from in-state Tennessee is huge for Jim Harbaugh and company. The school's recent success at the linebacker position helped win over Colson, while the staff also did a good job of selling the program's culture to Colson's family.

A converted wide receiver with elite speed at the linebacker position, Colson can play all over the field and his versatility should make for a great fit in the Wolverines' scheme. Their creativity with past athletes on defense – Jabrill Pepppers and Devin Bush – was the perfect pitch for how Colson will fit in defensive coordinator Don Brown's scheme.

WHY IT HURTS FOR THE SCHOOLS THAT MISSED

Tennessee has been on a roll in recruiting over the past month and it hurts for fans to see one of the state's top players head elsewhere. However, the Vols' recent success softens the blow and it's expected that Tennessee won't give up its pursuit of Colson anytime soon.

Oregon also looked to be a major player for Colson early on, but the inability to travel obviously hurt the Ducks' chances. The fact that they will bring in two five-star linebackers in the class of 2020 also lessens the blow of missing on Colson.

Ole Miss was always more of a long shot and LSU will continue to recruit at an elite level coming off a national championship last season.
