In a game that featured two of the top ranked teams in the state of Georgia in
Class 6A, there was plenty of talent on the field. But despite several future
FBS players, including three-star tight end Sam Letton and 2019 star
Dominick Blaylock, Walton couldn't keep pace with Roswell, losing
48-14. The Roswell defense lived up to it's billing as the state's best, with
Rivals250 linebacker and Clemson commit Tre Lamar, 2017
Rivals100 defensive back LeAnthony Williams and 2017 Alabama
commit Xavier McKinney leading the way for the Hornets.
I was impressed with...
After struggling with injuries during the offseason, Tre Lamar slipped
out of the Rivals100 and currently sits at No. 109 overall. Fully healthy and
playing a lighter weight than he did at offseason camps during the summer, Lamar
was very impressive while flying all over the field to make plays. Not only was
he great at stuffing the run, but he had a quarterback sack and several hurries
and also made plays on the perimeter while defending the screen game. Lamar
remains committed to the Clemson, but Auburn hasn't given up him, and it's easy
to see why both programs want him as the future heart of their defense.
After playing well as a sophomore and having an excellent offseason, Xavier McKinney was ranked by Rivals as a 5.7 three-star prior to receiving his
first offer. Just a few short months later McKinney is having a terrific junior
year, has committed to Alabama, and looks like he might be in line for another
move up the rankings. McKinney made several plays from his safety position,
including a late interception in the red zone that helped his team ice the game
away. McKinney is committed to Alabama, but said he will take a visit to Clemson
before the fall is over.
LeAnthony Williams has already reached the point in his high school career where
the ball doesn't even come his way anymore. Williams locked down one side of the
field all night, and recorded a pass deflection on one of the few balls that
came into his vicinity. According to Williams, Florida State has made a
major move in his recruitment, and he plans on visiting the Seminoles soon. Also
in the mix are Tennessee and Georgia.

I was surprised by...
Roswell's team is loaded with talent and players with scholarship offers, but
there appears to be at least a couple of players that haven't hit the recruiting
scene yet. Junior wide receiver Jayden Comma has great size at 6-foot-3
and 200 pounds and made several plays, including high-pointing a ball and
hauling it in and then breaking tackles for a long touchdown. His teammate and
Roswell's left tackle Jordan Tucker is another physically impressive
prospect and is listed at 6-foot-6 and 325 pounds. He plays left tackle for
Roswell and it should only be a matter of time before major offers start rolling
in for Tucker.
Other thoughts...
Blaylock,
who already boasts offers from Georgia, South Carolina and a
few other programs, had a tough night while being blanketed by Williams for most
of the night. With the success he's already had on the season and his impressive
offer sheet, it's easy to forget that Blaylock is just a freshman who is only
five games into his high school career. Blaylock is becoming a star, but like
anyone else there's going to  be a few bumps along the way.
Roswell
junior running back Sheldon Evans has an early offer from Georgia Southern and
it shouldn't be long before more schools join his list. The 5-foot-11, 205-pound
Evans ran all over the Walton defense, and also made several plays as a wide
receiver out of the backfield. Evans could be an ideal fit in a pro-style
offense and expect schools from around the country to come calling soon.
