Render rethinking FSU
Newnan (Ga.) High’s Sergio Render has been a soft commitment to Florida State since July. Now, after spending more time on the defensive line this season, it appears that he is considering other schools.

“I’m just looking around because I’m not sure if I really want to go there [FSU],” Render said. “I’m playing on defense too now, and that’s what I want to do next year.”
He’s setting up official visits with other schools, the first of which will come on Oct. 15 at Virginia Tech.
“I think I’ll play defense in college, and that’s where I want to play,” Render said. “I might play at either defensive tackle or defensive end, but they’ll probably play me at defensive tackle. Virginia Tech wants me to do that, so I’m visiting there on an official Oct. 15.”
Some SEC schools may also be back in the mix for the bruising 6-foot-3, 302-pound Render, who has scholarship offers from the Seminoles, Hokies, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and South Carolina. Interestingly, a school that has yet to give Render an offer may have an inside angle on getting him for college.
“I’m thinking about Ole Miss, South Carolina and Arkansas, too,” he said. “Arkansas might happen because my best friend, Ernest Mitchell, plays there. We got to be really close when I had to block him in practice last year.”
For now, Render will continue to play on both defense and offense, where he gained notoriety as one of the country’s top five center prospects and was ranked among the top 30 overall prospects in Georgia.
“We’re 4-2 so far, but we’ve won four straight,” Render said. “My strong point has been on the run blocking. I graded out at 92 percent last Friday with seven flat backs [pancake blocks].”
