Camp Series Presented by Under Armour
in Dallas, but not every player can make the top performers list. Here's a look at the Best of the Rest, players who narrowly missed top performers but still turned heads with their showings on
Sunday.
Recruiting wrap: Broadnax is waiting for his first offer.
Performance: Broadnax has no problem looking the part of the
prototypical quarterback prospect. He is a big guy at 6-foot-1 and 178 pounds and he has good mechanics.
The ball pops off his hand and he can put some velocity on the ball. He had a
very solid day from the beginning of drills through the end of one-on-ones.
WR
Camron Buckley (2017)
Cedar Hill, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Buckley is at the beginning of his recruiting
process.
Performance: Buckley showed quite a bit. His footwork definitely caught everyone's attention as he was able to shake up several top defenders. He was explosive out of his breaks and he ran crisp routes. He also has some nice size to him (6-foot-1, 170 pounds) and he has very dependable hands.
WR
Devodric Bynum (2017)
Dallas (Texas) Lincoln
Recruiting wrap: Bynum is waiting for his first offer.
Performance: Bynum was one of the quickest of all the receivers. During drills he was always one of the fastest through while keeping his technique. He is fluid in his movements and explodes past cornerbacks trying to press. In addition to quick feet and crisp routes, he also showed the ability to finish with reliable hands.
OG
Tyler Castaneda (2017)
Round Rock, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Castaneda has committed to the Texas Tech Red
Raiders, where his brother Robert is currently an offensive lineman.
Performance: Castaneda is mean and powerful in the trenches. He keeps a strong base and he is light on his feet when he has to be. His hands can knock even the biggest guy back and he is always ready to drive his man off the ball. During one-on-ones he stepped up and took out a couple of big-time defensive linemen.
SDE
Andrew Fitzgerald
Flower Mound (Texas) Marcus
Recruiting wrap: Fitzgerald has received offers from Air Force,
Army, California, Colorado State, North Carolina,
North Texas, SMU,
Texas State and
Vanderbilt.
Performance: Fitzgerald was very impressive during drills and in one-on-ones. He has very nice size at 6-foot-5, 240 pounds and a big frame to add more. He does not have a lot of bad weight either and is the kind of guy who gets up field in a hurry. He was able to get the edge a few times during one-on-one drills and then he also did a nice job of working across his man and countering.
OT
Chris Hughes
Harker Heights, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Hughes has offers from Texas Tech, Kansas and North Texas.
Performance: Hughes had one of the more impressive reps during one-on-ones while working at offensive tackle. He is not the biggest yet, just 255 pounds, but he has a very impressive 6-foot-5 frame and will only get bigger. He showed some very nice strength and he handled the speed rush as well as anyone in attendance.
S
Jaylon Jones
Allen, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Jones is a Rivals250 safety with double-digit offers.
Performance: Jones likes to get aggressive and he does not shy away from contact. He showed both on Sunday. He showed some very impressive footwork and he is more than capable in coverage. He has great range and he showed off his explosiveness out of his breaks. He was also very impressive during position drills.
LB
Kolbi McGary
Cedar Hill, Texas
Recruiting wrap: McGary does not have an offer right now, but is a guy to watch in the spring. Texas Tech has shown the most interest.
Performance: The question is whether or not McGary is a safety or a linebacker. He has very good size for a safety at 6-foot-1 and 200 pounds and he is very quick for a linebacker. He spent his time at safety Sunday and he showed some nice footwork and a quick change of direction. He was fluid in his movement and
really stood out during position drills.
S
Chris Miller
Frisco (Texas) Lone Star
Recruiting wrap: Miller has offers from Baylor, Mississippi
State and Tulsa.
Performance: Miller has some nice size at 6-foot and 184 pounds, and he enjoys getting a bit physical out there on the field. During one-on-ones he was quick to catch the eye with his physical play and his ball skills. He was quick to break on the ball and showed some really nice instincts.
WR
Bubba Ogbebor
Frisco (Texas) Heritage
Recruiting wrap: Iowa and Kansas have offered Ogbebor.
Performance: Ogbebor is a big, athletic receiver with the ability to play outside. He was quick off the line and showed some nice footwork. He was able to create separation and he was able to use his long arms
to extend for the football. He also showed some nice field awareness and exhibited excellent body control as he adjusted to the ball.
WR
Kelan Smith
Dallas (Texas) First Baptist
Recruiting wrap: Smith is receiving considerable attention from
Colorado, Colorado State and Kansas.
Performance: One thing about Smith which really caught attention was his burst out of the breaks. He comes out of his break at full speed, and he runs crisp routes. He was able to create separation and setup defenders then he did a nice job of extending for the ball while keeping his stride.
CB
Eric Sutton
Cedar Hill, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Sutton has yet to receive his first
scholarship offer but BYU is very interested.
Performance: Sutton was on top of his game from beginning to end. His footwork was clean, crisp, and quick. He was smooth in his backpedal and showed very nice hips. In coverage he stuck right there with his man, and was in position to make a play.
CB
Raleigh Texada
Frisco (Texas) Centennial
Recruiting wrap: Texada has committed to the Baylor Bears.
Performance: The future Baylor Bear showed off some very quick footwork during position drills, and he was one of the quickest to change directions. He was a very smooth operator and was also a playmaker
during one-on-one drills. He has no problem mirroring his man and did a great job of getting a jump on the ball.
WR
T.J. Vasher
Wichita Falls (Texas) Rider
Recruiting wrap: Vasher is a Rivals250 wide receiver with offers from Colorado, Houston, Ole Miss, Ohio State, SMU and Texas Tech.
Performance: Vasher is long and athletic and both showed through, especially during one-on-ones. He is a smooth route runner and he does a great job of getting up and high pointing the ball. His footwork is
crisp coming off the line and he was able to make a few highlight worthy receptions.
DT
Joseph Wallace
Dallas (Texas) Skyline
Recruiting wrap: Air Force and Washington have already extended
offers.
Performance: Wallace is not the tallest -- just 6-foot-1 -- and he is not the quickest, but he is stout, strong and has some very violent hands. He used his height to his advantage as he came off the ball low and drove through opponent after opponent. He was also quicker than one might think. He reminds a
bit of 2015 three-star defensive tackle Bryce English.
OL
Josiah Washington
DeSoto, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Washington does not have an offer yet, but he is one to watch in the spring.
Performance: Washington passes the eyeball test without any questions. He looks the part. He is tall, he has long arms, he has a strong base, and he has feet to go with it. His technique gets a little sloppy at times, but when he gets his hands on a guy he can end a rep very quick.
OT
Samuel Williams
Bearden, Ark.
Recruiting wrap: Williams currently has an offer from ULM.
Performance: The Arkansan standout brings a lot to the table. The size immediately jumps out at 6-foot-6 and 290 pounds. He also has room to add more weight to his frame and maintain his footwork. He jumped in at right tackle and turned some heads with his performance. He worked his hands well and showed some nice flexibility.
SDE
Soloman Wise
Coppell, Texas
Recruiting wrap: Wise does not have an offer at this point in the recruiting process.
Performance: Wise is a long defensive end with a big frame (6-5, 230). He has the ability to add some nice weight and maintain his athleticism. He showed a nice first step and the ability to get the quick corner on a few offensive tackles during one-on-ones. He also did a nice job of using his hands and separating from his opponent.
