Phelan does well without contact

CLEVELAND – West Chester (Ohio) Lakota West offensive guard Andrew Phelan had a good day Tuesday at the Elite Skills Camp at the Cleveland Browns Stadium. It was a good effort, considering he went through most of the camp with only one good eye to use.
"I lost my right contact during the drills," Phelan, who measured in at 6-foot-4 and 279 pounds at the recent Rivals.com Junior Day at Akron, said. "I did this with only one eye."

He still managed to be one of the more impressive linemen at the camp.
"It was my first time, so I liked and it was a good experience," Phelan said. "I'm going up to Purdue on Saturday for the NIKE Camp, so this really got me geared up for that camp where they'll be a lot more players and coaches at it."
Phelan said he was a little anxious getting ready for the camp.
"Standing outside the gate I was nervous when I saw all the coaches from all over the country," he said. "I didn't know what to expect. But I think in the mirror drills I did well, and in the pass protection I did pretty well. I still need to work on run blocking a lot. I just need to definitely get stronger."
But Phelan has been strong enough to get his first scholarship offer.
"Toledo offered me on Good Friday," he said. "It was my first time up there and they brought me into the office, and I liked it. We're staying in touch."
Phelan is getting some good looks from other schools, but he admits if one school offers it might be tough to turn down.
"I'm also talking to Indiana, Cincinnati, Miami and Akron," he said. "UC and Ohio State are my two dream schools. UC is the school that if I get the offer, then I'll probably take it. I know they're on the rise and I've been down there three or four times, and I really like it."
