OT Newsome talks Michigan visit, decision
Last weekend four-star Grant Newsome made the trip up to Ann Arbor to check out Michigan. The offensive tackle from Lawrenceville (N.J.) Lawrenceville Prep was very pleased with what he saw out of the Wolverines.

"I met with their coaching staff," said the 6-foot-7, 280-pound Newsome. "Coach Funk, the offensive line coach, and coach Nussmeier were there. After that I met with the academic staff and toured the facilities. I spent that night with one of the players and in the morning I had a conversation with coach Hoke and coach Funk before I got a tour of the campus.
"The coaches and I talked about Michigan and where they see themselves going forward," he said. "We talked a lot about where I would fit into their program. That was the main point of the conversation. I was very impressed with the coaching staff. They all seem like very good guys and was happy with what I took away from that."
There were a lot of things about Michigan that Newsome really liked.
"I think being able to meet the coaching staff was really good," Newsome said. "The NCAA rules make it really difficult to do that and it was nice to have an extended conversation with them. Staying with a player is something I haven't been able to do at every place. Those are the guys you'll be spending the next four or five years with so I think it's really important to fit in with and connect with the guys that are already there. I think the academics at Michigan speak for themselves. They're one of the best universities in the entire world."
Newsome won't be taking any visits for the next month or so.
"I don't have any more visits planned right now but I think I'll take more in June," he said. "It'll probably be a southern tour to schools like Alabama and LSU."
The schools Newsome has visited will be the ones he picks from when he makes his decision.
"I don't think I'll come out and name a top ten or top five," said Newsome. "The schools I've visited are the schools I'm very interested in. That's kind of how I'm naming my top schools. I think I'll commit some time in June or July. I'm pretty confident in the schools I've visited but I'm looking forward to seeing more."
Some other schools Newsome has visited are Penn State, Northwestern, Maryland, Duke, Stanford and others.
