THE SITUATION
Ole Miss’ momentum on the recruiting trail has hit Texas on the eve of National Signing Day.
JJ Henry, a coveted three-star wide receiver out of the Dallas Metroplex, pledged to the Rebels over a handful of in-state options. Henry is a top-100 prospect in the Lone Star State for 2021.
Henry signed with the Rebels over TCU, Texas, Texas A&M and SMU. Arkansas, Florida State and Louisville were also in the mix for Henry at different stages in his recruitment. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound Henry gives Ole Miss a talented pass-catcher geared for the slot in this class to pair with Rivals250 wide receiver Bralon Brown and in-state standout Brandon Buckhaulter.
He's the first Texan in Lane Kiffin's class.
Entering the early signing window, the Rebels ranked No. 19 in the Rivals team standings with 20 total commitments on board.
RIVALS REACTION
Henry broke out onto the scene as a junior in 2019 when he reeled in 76 catches for 1,400 yards and 18 total touchdowns en route to being named a district Co-Offensive MVP. In a shortened 2020 campaign, Henry accounted for 40 grabs for 739 yards, good for an impressive 18.5 yards per catch average, to go along with 10 trips to the end zone.
Over the past two years, the Dallas-area product has amassed 2,100 combined yards and 26 touchdowns.
The thin, speedy Henry is a three-sport standout that also dabbles in basketball and runs track. He participates in the 800-meter and relay teams as well as long jump.
Henry is a smooth, fluid route-runner that naturally flows in and out of his breaks. He has exceptional speed to get downfield and generates notable separate in the process. Henry also possesses breakaway speed and can get lost in a cloud of dust.
Henry is a developing route-runner capable of breaking away from defenders quickly. He can attack zones and find cushions. For a smaller-framed receiver, he has an impressive catch radius and really soft hands as well as excellent body control.
Henry will give Ole Miss a dangerous receiver to go over the top and create in space. He could turn kicks and punts and be used in gadget plays and slots as a weapon in Lane Kiffin's vertical attack.
