Rivals250 running back Daylan Smothers has announced his commitment to Oklahoma. The Sooners had to fight hard to reel in the commitment from the Charlotte (N.C.) West Charlotte star but they were able to hold off NC State, Florida State, and Alabama. Smothers went in-depth on his decision with Rivals.com.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"Oklahoma just felt like home when I went there on my visit," Smothers said. "They have have a great coaching staff and they made me really feel comfortable. The relationship I built with coach Murray has been phenomenal. He's a great, down to earth guy and I feel like can really develop and build with him throughout my career there.

"The visit really did a lot," he said. "I felt good about them but I had to go see them in person and up close. I needed to see if it was really about what they were talking about on the phone. When I got personal with the coaching staff and just around the guys that are in the building I felt the genuine love from them and I knew that could be my home.

"I really comfortable with coach Lebby's offense," said Smothers. "I trust him and he's a smart guy. He knows the game. He actually has an offensive line to run what he wants run comfortably. I know he's going to put me in the right position to get the ball and help the team get touchdowns.

"I looked up to Adrian Peterson a lot when I was growing up," he said. "Hearing his input on everything was a plus and a bonus for me, especially coming from an idol for me. It was a big help.

"Hopefully I can get my boy Kevin Concepcion to join the party," Smothers said. "I don't plan on taking any visits. I'm 100-percent locked in."

RIVALS' REACTION

Smothers is a tough, explosive back that seems to get better as the game goes on. He isn't necessarily a "burner" but he can consistently pick up big chunks of yards and he does a good job of breaking free of defenders in the open field using a combination of his quickness to juke would-be tacklers or just simply running over them. Smothers has good hands and should be considered a legitimate threat in the passing game. He has the skill set to be an "every down back" at the next level and should continue to improve once he's in a college strength and conditioning program.
