Oho State commit Jaiden Woodbey talks new FSU offer

Jaiden Woodbey landed a dream offer from Florida State on Tuesday. It came in a surprising fashion.

“Some Florida State fan commented under one of my Ohio State posts and he kept commenting under it and I decided to quote one of his tweets and I just said, ‘Too bad Florida State was dumb enough not to offer me,’” Woodbey said.

“I put my phone down and I was just going through my day and the school bell rang and I checked my Twitter and coach (Willie) Taggart messaged me on Twitter and said I had an offer and he told me to call him. I called him right then and I talked with him with my mom and dad.”

The five-star safety and Ohio State commit from Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco had always been highly interested in the Seminoles throughout his recruitment but the old staff under coach Jimbo Fisher seemed to be slow-playing him for months.

Taggart moved fast - but is it too late?

“The first conversation (Taggart) was just talking about how he recruited me at Oregon and how when he got to Florida State he felt I could fit their playing style as well and he wanted to offer me,” Woodbey said.

“We’ll see because it’s kind of late but it has been a dream school for me so I have to talk it over with my parents.”

Growing up, Woodbey has said that his father would show him and his brother Deion Sanders and Devin Hester highlights so he grew up a Miami fan but knew a whole lot about the Seminoles. Since early last spring, Woodbey has talked about wanting a Florida State offer.

As of Tuesday night, Woodbey was not planning to visit any school this weekend. The idea is to still finalize his commitment at the Army game with Ohio State and USC being the main contenders. How Florida State plays a role in his final decision is yet to be determined.
