Youngstown (Ohio) Ursuline two-star receiver Derrick Stewart has been the focus of opposing teams and his numbers are down a little bit this year because of that, but the number he cares about the most is four, as in a 4-1 record.
“I’m playing pretty good,” Stewart, who is 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, said. “Everybody has kind of been keying on me, and we have a new coach, so we’re really running the ball a lot more. But I have four touchdowns. I have two receiving, one on a field goal block that I brought back, and then another on a rush.”
Stewart said he’s a lot faster than he was last year.
“I’m way more physical, too,” he said. “I’m faster, and that’s helped me work hard and beat the defenders that try to cover me.”
Stewart isn’t rushing the recruiting process. He has offers from Wisconsin, Cincinnati, Akron and Toledo. That’s the order of the teams he’s interested in at this point.
“Wisconsin is No. 1,” he said. “I just like their style of play. I also like their prestige, too.”
