The Latest: When Class of 2017 Rivals100 defensive back Xavier McKinney cut short his recruitment in the fall of 2015 in order to commit to Alabama, several of the country's top programs stayed away as they figured he was heading for Tuscaloosa. But since decommitting from the Tide earlier this summer, McKinney has seen his share of new interest come along. Schools like Georgia, Clemson, Auburn and Florida have all been after McKinney, and on Sunday night a new school, Ohio State, officially entered the fray. Rivals.com caught up with McKinney to get his thoughts on what he called a "dream" offer.
In His Words: "I talked to Coach Meyer tonight and let me know they wanted to offer me. I don't know what took them so long but I'm happy to have it now. It means a lot to me and my family. Ohio State has been my dream school since I was little, they have always been one of my favorite teams to watch. They have a great program and a lot of great players have come from there."
Rivals Reaction: It's crazy that it's taken this long for a player of McKinney's caliber to pick up an offer, but something tells me the timing of this isn't random. McKinney is exploring his options since re-opening his recruitment and Ohio State may have caught wind of his affinity for the program. McKinney visited Georgia over the weekend and the Bulldogs are playing catch up with perceived leader Clemson. But if one school can come in from the outside and make things interesting, it's the Buckeyes.
