REDONDO BEACH, Calif. – Some of the top high school teams in the West were in attendance Saturday at the adidas SoCal Invitational. Here is a look at some of the latest recruiting news from the event.

Martell updates recruitment

Tate Martell recently decommitted from Texas A&M and since backing off that pledge the top-rated dual-threat quarterback said his recruitment has gotten much busier.

The Las Vegas Bishop Gorman standout said Ohio State, UCLA, USC, Oregon, West Virginia and North Carolina have been especially active in the last few days.

“There have been a ton of schools,” Martell said. “A lot of guys have come around especially after the decommitment. I’m just wide open right now.”

The four-star is especially looking for an offensive coordinator he can mesh with and Martell mentioned his relationship with Cal assistant Jake Spavital. Because of that relationship, Martell said the Golden Bears will definitely be in his top five.

The Gorman recruit is expected to visit UCLA in the next couple weeks, he could return to Ohio State soon and he’d also like to check out West Virginia and North Carolina.

Holmes planning visits

Five-star Darnay Holmes is starting to consider some official visits and the Calabasas, Calif., standout said he’s really serious about getting to Michigan and Ohio State.

Holmes, the second-best cornerback in this class, said Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh has definitely been selling the program hard and the five-star is listening.

“He’s talking about how he wants me to come up there,” Holmes said. “He’s not about judgment and he’s not one of those coaches who’s talking about other programs. He wants me to come up there, see why David (Long) picked the school and with me and him on the same field, we would be dominant.”

The Calabasas recruit was definitely impressed by Ohio State’s haul in the NFL Draft, definitely a consideration as he looks at his recruitment. Holmes is planning to take his official to Ohio State when it hosts Michigan in late November.

All of Holmes’ other regulars including UCLA, Stanford, Nebraska and others remain in contention.

Lindsey gives the latest

Ohio State will definitely receive an official visit from four-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey, who has developed a great relationship with Urban Meyer so far in his recruitment.

It’s also no surprise that Nebraska continues to step it up with the Corona (Calif.) Centennial speedster and a visit to Lincoln is not out of the question.

Oregon and USC are also heavily involved, Notre Dame is staying in touch and Lindsey said Alabama “is trying hard” with him, which he definitely appreciates.

Those are some of the top programs early but Lindsey admits he’s really not too focused on recruiting yet.

“I’m not even thinking about college at this point,” Lindsey said.

Echols to visit Bama

Four-star defensive end Hunter Echols remains happily committed to UCLA but a recent offer from Alabama definitely has him intrigued.

The Los Angeles Cathedral prospect has family in Birmingham so that might be a consideration but more will be known after Echols heads to Tuscaloosa in the summer.

UCLA still looks very strong in his recruitment but USC is also pushing really hard and Echols said he’s also taking a closer look at TCU, Baylor, Oklahoma, Michigan, Notre Dame, Arizona and Washington.

Bolden talks commitment status

Bubba Bolden considers himself a soft commit to USC and said that he’s going to take all his official visits but that “unless something major happens” he’s planning to stick with the Trojans.

The Las Vegas Gorman four-star safety will take a visit to Colorado with teammate Alex Perry, a four-star cornerback, and he’s also looking more at UCLA and Arizona State.

Bolden might not be as firm as he’s been but USC still looks pretty strong at this point.

“I’m just open to every school,” Bolden said. “I’m going to take all my officials to see how I fit in their school and what they have to offer me.”

More news and notes

Three-star Randal Grimes is committed to USC and he’s happy with his decision but two Big 10 visits are coming up. The Las Vegas Desert Pines prospect said he’s planning to take official visits to Michigan and Ohio State as those two programs get more involved in his recruitment.

Los Angeles Cathedral speedster Jamire Calvin plans to visit Arizona and Utah this summer and he said the Utes have especially stepped it up recently. An official visit to Nebraska is definitely expected to happen, Stanford is getting more involved and Arizona State and Oregon State have been aggressive recently.

Rhedi Short recently decommitted from UCLA but his recruitment has not slowed down. Arizona State offered hours after he backed off the Bruins’ pledge, USC has stepped it up along with Penn State but mainly Oregon seems like the team to beat possibly. Short was wearing an Oregon shirt at the tournament and said he and his family loved his recent visit to Eugene.

Brendan Radley-Hiles could be close to a big SEC offer. The 2018 four-star cornerback from Calabasas said he was told if he visits LSU this offseason then the Tigers could definitely offer. Oklahoma State and TCU are showing more interest and Radley-Hiles said Washington could be really close to offering.
