Looking Ahead
Derrick Tucker
Several big matchups will be on display. One of the biggest will feature Houston defensive tackle commit Oliver against a Manvel offensive line which includes TCU commit Myers and Missouri commit Nworah. At quarterback, Sterling-Cole and King both have dual-threat qualities and are proven playmakers capable of making something out of nothing.
Cleveland will look to test a strong Manvel secondary, which is headlined by safeties Anderson and Tucker. Cleveland, who hears regularly from teammates Sterling-Cole and Oliver about Arizona State and Houston, will likely be a key target for King and Myers. Oliver, who is leading the way for Tom Herman's H-town takeover, will also be hard at work with future teammate Glasgow since so many top Houston-area prospects will be on the field at one time.
Quotables
Dillon Sterling-Cole
D'Eriq King, QB Manvel:
"Westfield has a lot of talent - Dillon, Tyrie, Ed - they have a tremendous amount of talent. I know last year Dillon was a transfer and still learning the system in his first game, so I expect Dillon to do great things this year. I expect Dillon to be more polished and more understanding about Westfield's offense. So I feel we have to have a totally different mindset against him because I know he will be better. Tyrie had a really good summer this year and showed out at a couple of camps. And Ed is Ed. He's probably the best defensive tackle in the Houston area, if not one of the best in the nation. So we have to really keep an eye on those three."
Dillon Sterling-Cole, QB Houston Westfield:
"They have guys all over the field and on the roster that can make plays. D'Eriq King, he is a guy who can keep drives alive with his feet and hit targets like Reggie Hemphill and D'Vaughn Pennamon for big plays down the field. Deontay Anderson is a guy who will be all over the field defensively for Manvel."
