Mountain West Elite Camp: Top performers

Recruiting wrap: The former Louisville commit holds an offer from BYU and the in-state program has made him a priority lately. Oregon State and Utah are also expressing interest and have extended camp invites.
Performance: The 6-foot-3, 215-pound quarterback has a strong arm and wasn't really affected much by the rain in the 7-on-7 portion to close out the camp. He showed good vision down field and, with that velocity on his throws, made some eye-popping passes into tight coverage. Torre also was able to put enough loft on some throws when he had to.

LB
Jackson Kaufusi
Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton
Recruiting wrap: Kaufusi holds offers from Cal, Utah and Washington State, but the three-star prospect doesn't anticipate making a decision until after the high school season.
Performance: From a versatility standpoint, the 6-foot-2, 189-pound prospect has the coverage skills to defend smaller slot-type receivers, but also the physicality to help out near the line of scrimmage. Kaufusi was smooth in his backpedal and broke quickly to the football, making a few plays to break up would-be completions.

QB
Caleb Taylor (2017)
Plain City (Utah) Fremont
Recruiting wrap: Taylor has drawn a lot of early attention and the gunslinger intends to camp with Alabama, Boise State, BYU, Mississippi State and Utah this summer.
Performance: The young gunslinger looked very comfortable throwing to the sidelines despite tight coverages, trusting his arm strength and his ability to anticipate route breaks. Taylor moved well in the pocket and already has great footwork that should help him develop even further.
5
LB
Pookie Maka
Murray (Utah) Cottonwood
Recruiting wrap: Maka has caught fire on the recruiting trail, landing his 10th scholarship offer from Wisconsin on Saturday. He plans to camp with USC next month.
Performance: One quick glance at the 6-foot-3, 200-pound prospect is enough to figure out why so many college coaches have stopped by his school during the spring evaluation period. Maka was very fluid moving from the outside linebacker spot, but also showed glimpses that could make him an ideal hybrid rusher off the edge at the next level.
6
WR
Bryce Mortenson
Smithfield (Utah) Skyview
Recruiting wrap: Mortenson holds offers from Cornell and Nevada, and recently visited Utah and Utah State for their Junior Days. Boise State and Washington have also expressed interest.
Performance: The big target caught mostly everything that was thrown his way. Mortenson excelled in bump-and-run coverage, getting past the smaller cornerbacks and then using his size to make a play on the ball. The 6-foot-6, 210-pound wideout also showed strong hands despite the slippery conditions.
7
WR
Julian Blackmon
Layton, Utah
Recruiting wrap: Blackmon has been hearing from in-state schools BYU, Utah and Utah State.
Performance: Also a standout basketball player on a state championship team, Blackmon looked comfortable and smooth as a route runner. The 6-foot-1, 170-pound receiver made some difficult catches look fairly easy, in large part due to his leaping ability and ability to box out defenders in the fight for the football.
8
DB
Braxton Gunther
Woods Cross, Utah
Recruiting wrap: Gunther has offers from Nevada, Southern Utah, Weber State and Wyoming.
Performance: He might not be the biggest defensive back, but the 5-foot-11, 170-pound Gunther certainly made up for that with his savvy. Whether at cornerback or safety, Gunther was always in the right spot and was rewarded for that a few times, including once on an interception off a deflected pass and again on a couple breakups.
9
RB
Sione Finau
Kearns, Utah
Recruiting wrap: Finau is new to the recruiting process.
Performance: Whether it was going vertical to beat a linebacker or sideways on a flat route, Finau had exceptional wiggle once he caught the ball. Finau made a few defenders miss, which is quite the accomplishment in the one-hand-touch setting. He stayed low to the ground and made the necessary cuts to gain extra yardage.
10
RB
Jackson McChesney (2017)
Alpine (Utah) Lone Peak
Recruiting wrap: McChesney holds an early offer from BYU.
Performance: Much like he did at the Rivals Camp Series Presented by Under Armour stop in Las Vegas over two months ago, McChesney was a nuisance for the linebackers that were assigned to cover him out of the backfield. The junior-to-be has soft hands and good reflexes, and should be one of the top rushers in the state this fall.
11
QB
Garrison Beach
Smithfield (Utah) Skyview
Recruiting wrap: Beach visited SMU earlier this spring and has started to hear from other schools.
Performance: Beach made quick decisions with the football and they were often the correct calls. He might not have the strongest arm or the physical tools of some others in the region, but Beach still produces due to his accuracy and feel for the position.
12
WR
Malik Overstreet
Pleasant Grove, Utah
Recruiting wrap: Overstreet has received letters from San Diego State and Utah State.
Performance: The speedy prospect got behind the secondary a few times for long touchdowns and excelled in one-on-one battles. On one play, he caught up with a throw that looked beyond reach. On another, he sneaked in between two defenders for a scoring catch.
