Collins, who transferred from Cy-Fair High School to St. Pius this summer, has attended camps put on by Oklahoma State, TCU, Houston and UTEP. He also visited the campuses of Fresno State and Purdue last week, and plans on hitting Louisiana-Lafayette and Minnesota in the weeks to come.
"I'm just getting out there," Collins said. "I know I'm a little bit of a sleeper, but the coaches that have seen me really like me.
"I really enjoyed the getting to see Fresno and Purdue and they are recruiting me pretty hard right now. UTEP is my top school right now. I received an offer from them today and I got a chance to meet Coach (Mike) Price at their camp. I liked their instruction and the staff a lot."
Collins expects to get his second offer from Louisiana-Lafayette at next week's camp and hopes one school in particular also come through with an offer.
"I will play anywhere, coast to coast," Collins said. "But I really like Houston because I've got some family that goes there. I'm familiar with the campus and like their coaching staff also. If it doesn't come through with Houston, I'm open to going anywhere."
Collins is being recruited as a defensive back, but also stars at wide receiver. He attended the Fresno State camp with St. Pius quarterback Billy Noonan, who he hopes to hook up with several times this upcoming season.
"Billy is a great quarterback and I love the system at St. Pius," he said. "I think I should catch several balls next year."
