CORNELIUS, N.C.Garrison Hand took a lot of reps Sunday at the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp at quarterback, the position he has grown up playing and where he will play at Atlanta (Ga.) Westlake this fall. The 6-foot-4, 185 pound rising junior received his first offer last week, but it was not to play quarterback. Not only was he surprised by the position he was offered to play, but he was surprised by the school that pulled the trigger.

IN HIS OWN WORDS...

"I was shocked when I got the offer last week," said Hand. "I never thought Michigan State would have been the first school to offer me. I had never heard anything from them, so it was a total shock for me.

"I was in the gym and my coach called me into his office. The Michigan State coach had just finished watching my tape and he liked it a lot, so I then found out about the offer. When I heard about the offer, I did not even believe it. I just did not expect it, so I was still trying to take it in when I walked out of my coach's office.

"I love playing quarterback, but the offer is to play wide receiver. Coach [Terrence] Samuel (wide receivers) is the coach from Michigan State who watched my film and offered me. I would love to play quarterback, but I will play anywhere to get on the field. It doesn't bother me that they like me at receiver. I was very surprised by the offer to play receiver, but I am just excited to have the offer.

"I know Michigan State is a top program. They play great football, they produce players and I want to learn more about them. I am really going to take a look at them now that they are the first offer for me."

"I am just blessed. I still cannot believe that I have my first offer. I am so blessed."

Rivals Reaction...

This is just the beginning for Hand. He is an athlete with good size and length. Quarterback is his first love, but he may have more upside as a wide receiver. He is likely going to draw a lot of attention this spring as coaches stop by Westlake. Michigan State is really the first school to show interest in Hand. He would love to hear from schools like Clemson, Florida State, Louisville and Miami.
