MICHIGAN

Four-star quarterback Cade McNamara had been off the market with his commitment to Notre Dame but the Reno (Nev.) Damonte Ranch recently reopened his recruitment. Michigan, USC and Alabama have emerged as the favorites for McNamara and he seems to have especially hit it off with Wolverines coach Jim Harbaugh and that staff. There’s no doubt Michigan is right in the thick of things with McNamara, although the four-star standout said new USC quarterbacks coach Bryan Ellis has been aggressively recruiting him and it won’t influence his decision that the Trojans signed quarterback JT Daniels in their last recruiting class.

MIAMI

Throughout his recruitment, the thinking was that four-star quarterback Michael Johnson, Jr., would go through the process but would likely end up at Oregon where his dad is an assistant coach. That could very well happen still - and Johnson said Sunday the entire Oregon staff other than his father is diligently recruiting him - but the Eugene (Ore.) Sheldon quarterback seems enamored with Miami as well. He knows the history of the program and the success the Hurricanes have had recently and Johnson has hit it off with the coaching staff. Miami is right there with Oregon, Ole Miss and others at the top of Johnson’s list.

STANFORD

A bunch of top 2020 Hawaii prospects, including WR Matt Sykes, LB Jordan Botelho and DT Stanley McKenzie visited Stanford on Saturday and then performed well at the Rivals Camp on Sunday. The Cardinal are always slow to offer underclassmen but those three had excellent visits to Stanford and all have the talent to land offers at some point. After a disappointing 2018 recruiting class, the Cardinal coaches seem to be more active with 2019 and 2020 kids and the Hawaii triumvirate could be a nice starting block since Sykes, Botelho and McKenzie are all talented kids from Honolulu St. Louis who could look to play together in college.

NOTRE DAME

When Julius Buelow was asked about which schools have piqued his interest so far in his recruitment he said Notre Dame, then paused for a couple seconds and added Utah, Washington and UCLA. That has to be a sign that he likes the Irish a whole lot and he talked about the football tradition and the strong academics in South Bend as driving factors in his recruitment. He has a lot of family in Utah so the Utes will always be in it. Playing in Los Angeles could be something he wants so the Bruins will stay high on his list. And Washington has emerged as a Pac-12 power and that will be important. But Notre Dame does look strong right now for the massive Hawaii prospect.

OLE MISS

Kwabena Watson

This is a surprising team to be on this list especially for Northern California and West prospects, but Michael Johnson Jr. said he’s planning to visit Oxford - along with Florida State and Alabama - over spring break and the main reason is because he’s developed a great relationship with offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Phil Longo. The Rebels could be a dark horse in Johnson’s recruitment with Oregon and Miami also high on his list. Another prospect that lists an Ole Miss offer is defensive line MVP Kwabena Watson, who could play defensive end or outside linebacker and was unstoppable during one-on-ones at Sunday’s camp.
