Keynel McZeal was somewhat of a mystery man prior to his commitment to Texas A&M in early June. The big receiver showed his value in spring during 7-on-7 events as a player that more often than not out-matched defensive backs with his size and ability to snag jump-balls.

He and three-star Pearland cornerback Debione Renfro were the first commitments in what has since been a whirlwind June and early-July run of commitments for the Aggies, who have seen their 2017 recruiting class balloon to 17 players strong. McZeal was last on campus for the Aggies recruiting barbecue event on June 11.

“The food was real good,” he said. “We just toured the school again, met the coaches and athletes and they fed us so it was a good time.”

McZeal said on Day 1 of the Pylon 7v7 National Championship that the Aggies have always been a favorite school of his and he’s ready to get in and get to work at College Station.

In his words

“Pretty much, A&M is in the SEC and that’s where I’ve always wanted to play,” he said. “It’s top of the line, best athletes in the country and their fanbase is crazy. The high school I come from, everything is about football and that’s pretty much how it is out there.”

“I’m kind of getting close with Roshauud (Paul),” he said. “Personally, I haven’t had a chance to meet too many of the guys, but we’re all in a DM on twitter and talk to each other on there.”

Rivals Reaction: McZeal has all the tools to be an effective tight end that can be moved around the line of scrimmage and create mismatches in the passing game. He said that he’s still not sure how exotic that role could become for him, but it’s pretty clear that he makes his hay running routes where he only needs to make one break or in the vertical passing game. He’s going to have his share of catches over the top of safeties' outstretched arms on seam routes and should be a go-to option for fades in the corner of the end zone.

McZeal said that since committing to A&M, Georgia and Oklahoma State have taken a particular interest in him, but it’s still unclear on how he plans to use his official visits in the fall.
