Maryland commit scheduling official visits

THE LATEST: Ruben Hyppolite has been committed to Maryland since April and things seem fine on that front for the most part. Thing is, an impressive offseason the camp circuit has raised the linebackers profile, attracting new suitors. Both Alabama and Penn State are now in pursuit, giving Hyppolite plenty to think about. Below, he discusses where his recruitment stands and outlines his fall visit schedule.

IN HIS WORDS

ON OFFICIAL VISITS THIS FALL:

"I’m going to take officials to Alabama, Penn State and Maryland. We’ll see if there are any others but those are the three for sure."

ON MARYLAND:

"I’ve obviously always loved Maryland. That’s the school love and the school I’m committed to. I like the coaches and everyone is always so real with me up there. Everyone has made me so comfortable throughout the process, so being able to have that is great."

ON HOW MARYLAND IS KEEPING HIM COMMITTED:

"They tell me how I fit the program and how I’m the kind of guy they need to bring a winning culture. They also tell me I can come in and compete right away. All of that plus just how I feel comfortable with Maryland."

ON PENN STATE:

"I love the culture. I also love the way they produce linebackers. Like I said, I love the culture but also the energy of the school."

ON ALABAMA

That’s a winning culture right there. And when I was up there, I just loved the vibe. It’s just a great program and a great school.

ON HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH THE TIDE:

"He got the offer on my visit. I camped and worked out for the coaches. I just impressed them there. After that, they had me run a 40 for them, and it was like 4.6 so that impressed them. They offered me after that."

ON WHEN HE HOPES TO SHUT HIS RECRUITMENT DOWN:

"It’ll be all done with in December, before early signing day. I’m signing early for sure."

RIVALS REACTION: The odds seem stacked against Maryland on the surface, but it would be unwise to count the Terrapins out. The bond Hyppolite has forged with the staff is a strong one that may be hard to break. That said, an eventful visit to Penn State could shake things up, and no school is ever comfortable with Alabama lurking. The good news for Maryland is that The Tide may have a player or two above Hyppolite on its board for the time being. Penn State is a real threat, however, and there may be some tense moments ahead.
