THE SITUATION

Cox’s recruitment has been a bit of a roller coaster. After initially looking as if he was bound for Georgia, Cox shocked many when he committed to Ohio State earlier this year. He remained committed to the Buckeyes for months, but that didn’t stop the Bulldogs and Alabama from recruiting him.

Following an official visit to Tuscaloosa at the beginning of the month, Cox officially backed off his pledge to the Buckeyes. He then visited Athens this past weekend and has now narrowed his focus to just the Bulldogs and the Tide.

So where will he end up? We asked our team experts to state the case for their respective programs and let National Recruiting Director Mike Farrell issue a verdict.

THE CASE FOR ALABAMA

Brenton Cox has been heavily pursued by the Crimson Tide for a very long time. He has been one of Alabama's top defensive end targets despite his early commitment to Ohio State. Alabama is in desperate need of defensive linemen in this class. Defensive line is one of Alabama's top two priority needs in this class along with defensive back. Alabama has four defensive back commitments compared to only one defensive line commitment. Cox will have an opportunity to contribute right away in Tuscaloosa even if he doesn't start.” – Andrew Bone, BamaInsider.com

THE CASE FOR GEORGIA

“Cox has always been a major need for the Bulldogs given his pass-rushing prowess, and he's certainly been no stranger to Athens throughout his recruitment. With several unofficial visits under his belt, a few in-homes done, and coming off of an official visit, he's quite familiar with the staff at Georgia. The same goes for the 2018 class. Alabama is always going to be a compelling option, but Georgia coaches have made clear they need Cox more than the Tide. I believe that will benefit them when the time to sign comes.” – Jake Reuse, UGASports.com

THE VERDICT

“He chooses Georgia in a tight battle over Alabama mainly because of his relationship with the coaches and the home state pull.” – Mike Farrell, National Recruiting Director
