LSU's first to offer 2020 defensive lineman

THE LATEST: On Wednesday, LSU became the first school to offer 2020 defensive lineman Josaih Hayes. He is a 6-foot-2, 278 pound sophomore out of Horn Lake (Miss.) and Ed Orgeron made a stop by his school.

Hayes camped at LSU last summer, so coach Orgeron and the Tiger staff was already aware of Hayes before the season. The offer came as a surprise to Hayes and he is excited to be a target of the Tigers.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I was surprised by the offer," said Hayes. "As soon as I found out about the offer, I was excited and happy to get my first offer. I was at LSU over the summer for a camp and it is an honor to be offered by one of the top schools in the nation. I like the campus, the environment and it just feels like home to me there. I hopefully will visit there again soon and they are my No. 1 school."

RIVALS REACTION: This is not a surprise. Rivals.com saw Hayes play in November and is an impressive sophomore. He has great agility and quickness for his size and this is just the beginning for him. LSU is first to offer, but in-state schools Ole Miss and Mississippi State are aware of him as are Alabama, Auburn and Memphis. Expect his offer list to grow in the coming months, but with LSU being first to pull the trigger and Hayes being on their campus before, the Tigers have jumped out to the early lead. LSU has already offered two of his teammates, linebacker Nakobe Dean and athlete Raydarious Jones. Both are 2019 prospects.
