Usually a college will assign an assistant coach to be the primary recruiter for a prospect they are interested in.

When a head coach makes himself responsible for recruiting a prospect individually it's often a sign that he is very high on the recruit. That appears to be the case with UConn and Dallastown, Pennsylvania linebacker Ben Kline.

The Huskies were the second school to offer Kline and head coach Randy Edsall has appointed himself the head recruiter when it comes to Kline.

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker recently took a trip to UConn and he enjoyed himself.

"UConn was fun," he recalled. "I had already been up there a couple of times so I didn't learn much new. It was just good to get some extended time with the coaches. Coach Edsall has kind of been recruiting me personally. He's been to my school twice and he's the one I have the most conversations with. I think I'm one of their top prospects.

"I like them. Coach Edsall is a stand up guy and all their coaches are straight shooters as far as I can tell. They've been with me pretty much through this whole (recruiting process). They're right in the mix."

Kline also holds offers from Boston College, Maryland, Michigan, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and West Virginia.

He was recently scheduled to visit Boston College but those plans fell through.

"Boston College actually ended up having to cancel. I think the head coach had to do something with the athletics director, but I'm not 100-percent sure what happened."

Kline said he plans on visiting BC, West Virginia, Maryland and Rutgers in the next few weeks. He is also thinking about visiting both Vanderbilt and Tennessee. A coach from Iowa recently e-mailed him about the possibility of him visiting the Big Ten school.

He hopes to have his decision made by the start of his senior season, but said it was possible that wouldn't happen. At the very least he hopes he has significantly narrowed his list by that time. Kline said he would not want to take more than two official visits.
