Kirby Bennett still working hard for next big offer

2018 four-star running back Kirby Bennett carried on with a productive offseason last weekend with his appearance at Texas’ Under the Lights camp on Saturday night.

Bennett has showed well at events over the last few months after getting a big offer from Ole Miss in January. Texas Tech has been his most recent, but he also has his sights set on an offer from Texas after last weekend.

The Allen, Texas, recruit returned to campus on Sunday to get a look at some of the things he hadn’t been able to see in a couple of visits prior.

IN HIS WORDS

TEXAS

On his experience from a visit perspective and what stood out

“I was here to see the campus, hang out with Brandon Jones, Sam Ehlinger and the rest of the guys,” he said. “I really just wanted to come back and visit with Coach (Anthony) Johnson and see about getting an offer.”

His review of his time on campus

“I actually really enjoyed this campus,” he said. “I had been here once for a game but never had gone through the facilities. But I like it, and good people here.”

TEXAS TECH

Jack Anderson and those guys have been talking to me and recruiting me heavily,” he said. “I like their running backs coach [DeShaun Foster] it’s going to be a tough decision.”

On his level of contact with the staff when it was in Dallas for a June satellite camp

“I had talked with the coaches the whole camp,” he said. “They came to my school and we talked for two hours, so the relationship is really strong with them.”

RIVALS REACTION

Bennett has also recently visited Houston, but doesn’t hold an offer from the Cougars. The opportunity with Bennett is still pretty significant for anyone willing to jump into his recruitment. In addition to Ole Miss and Tech, he also holds offers from Colorado and SMU. A strong season this year should help him make good on a few of those other programs that have already shown in him.

Bennett is more of a traditional sort of prospect at running back, and stoutly-built, but he has shown in the spring that he is a capable pass-catching threat as well. Last season he averaged nearly 7.5 yards per carry, and should see an expanded role this season with his Allen high school team.
