Detroit Crockett three-star cornerback Desmond King holds six offers from Mid-American Conference schools and is coming of a strong spring camp season. Could a continuation of that play this summer lead to more offers?
The 5-11, 170-pound King has plans to attend one-day camps at Michigan State and Ohio State this summer, and is also likely to camp with Illinois and Pittsburgh. All four of those schools were in his school and showed strong interest during the spring evaluation period.
"Michigan State just sent a letter to the house telling me they wanted me to come back to the campus, so I hope that is good news," King said. "Ohio State told me to come to the one-day camp. Coach [Kerry] Coombs said he would keep in contact with me and wanted me to be there."
While King is encouraged by the interest from Ohio State and Michigan State, he feels Illinois and Pittsburgh may be closest to offering.
"[Illinois] Coach [Keith] Gilmore has come in to check on me, get my scores and my transcripts," King said. "He told me he would get back in touch with me and just had to show the head coach my transcripts."
King has already made a visit to Pittsburgh, touring the school with assistant coach Matt House when his 7-on-7 team was in town for a tournament.
"He said to keep an open mind because they were thinking o offering me," King said. "It's a great environment and they have a great medical field there."
Besides a strong spring came season, King is also coming off a junior campaign in which he recorded 12 interceptions to bring his career total to 22. He will be gunning for the state career interception record of 27 this fall.
