The good times along the recruiting trail for Jackson State continues with another big win landing Georgia 2023 receiver Robert Lockhart on Sunday. The addition of the Langston Hughes three-star talent adds another speed demon to the Tigers roster that is too much for any team.

Looking ahead to the 2023 season with former five-star Travis Hunter hauling in passes along with former four-star Kevin Coleman and now Lockhart… who do you cover?

The Georgia high school track season is not completed yet, but Lockhart has personal best times of 10.75 in the 100 and 21.5 in the 200 to go with his 4.45 in the 40-yard dash. In offensive coordinator Brett Bartolone’s offense, the Tigers will be lighting up the scoreboard in prolific fashion.

Lockhart spoke to Rivals about his recruiting process and how Jackson State won him over.

“Coach (Michael) Pollock (TE) has been recruiting me,” Lockhart said. “He brought me in a room with my coaches and told me coach Deion (Sanders) wants you. They were plus-one on my board. He has been keeping in contact with me every day treating me like a human being instead of a player; that played a role in my decision. Their new offensive coordinator is from Nevada, he was showing me the stats and letting me know what he can produce.”

Lockhart talked about his relationship with coach Pollock, “He’s a great man. We’ve had lots of great conversations.”

A plan is in place to utilize Lockhart’s fantastic speed.

“They were saying they’d use me in the slot, and that I’d get a bunch of touches,” Lockhart stated. “I can work the outside too; they don’t know that yet. He wants to get me the ball in the slot, from there I handle business.”

In an odd way, the Auburn Tigers helped Jackson State land Lockhart.

“The tipping point was when I visited Auburn,” Lockhart said. “That broke the ice to where I wanted to go. I experienced the culture at Auburn. The fans were amazing, I had a great time, but I didn’t feel like that was the spot for me. I knew the HBCU route was my spot.”

As soon as Lockhart got back to Fairburn from The Plains, he made his decision committing to Jackson State.

“The day after I came back from Auburn is when I committed,” Lockhart shared. “Coach Pollock was excited. He said, “I want you to commit on April 24 (at the spring game). We will not sit an elite player like you on the bench, you will play slot and be a return specialist.” Two fast people on the return team, it is lose-lose for them.”

Jackson State is not the only one happy that this part of the recruiting process is wrapped up.

“I am stress free, worry free, and have a clear head and clear mind,” Lockhart said. “I can focus on what I want to focus on now.”
