Houston made quite the splash over the weekend when Rivals250 safety Maurice Williams flipped his year-long LSU commitment to the Cougars. Now, Dana Holgorsen and his staff have added another top target to its 2024 class.
Three-star offensive tackle Ray'Quan Bell announced his pledge to the Cougars on Monday evening. The lineman out of the Greater Houston Area opted for the local program over offers from Baylor, Missouri, and TCU.
"The coaches and players make it feel like home. My parents like them a lot and so do I," Bell told Rivals.com about his commitment to Houston. "They are in the Big 12 now, so why go far and play when I can stay home and still play great competition?"
Listed at 6-foot-5 and 295 pounds, Bell presents a massive frame up front. He can stick on the outside or slide in and play guard, offering the Cougars some positional flexibility when he arrives on the next level.
The Cougars hosted the high three-star recruit for an official visit earlier this month. There, Houston sold its vision to Bell and won him over in the recruiting process.
"It was good vibes," Bell said of the visit. "(Houston) didn’t really have to say much because they’ve been consistent with communication since they offered me. (The coaches) said I’ve been the number linemen for them."
Bell plays at Spring (Texas) Wesfield, one of the premier programs in the Lone Star State. He believes that the Cougars are on the verge of doing big things with the way that the staff is recruiting local talent.
"They know how to recruit and keep the best players at home," said Bell.
