Houston Speed Skill: Best of the Rest

HOUSTON -- There were plenty of standout showings at the Rivals Speed & Skill Challenge Presented by Under Armour

in Houston, but not every player can make the top performers list. Here's a look at the Best of the Rest, players who narrowly missed top performers but still turned heads with their showings on Saturday.
Recruiting wrap: Car has been offered by BYU, Colorado State and
Nevada.
Performance: Car was only in Houston for the drill portion of camp, but his
performance should be noted. He has a solid build and definitely
passes the eyeball test. He is light on his feet and changes
direction in a hurry. He could not participate in one-on-ones or
7-on-7 due to a wrist injury.
WR
Cameron Dantzler
Hammond (La.) St. Thomas Aquinas
Recruiting wrap: Dantzler has received offers from Louisiana Tech,
Southern Miss, Texas Tech and Tulane.
Performance: Dantzler spent his day at defensive back and there are great qualities he brings to the table there. He stood a little too high and played a
little too stiff at times, but his length allows him to cover ground in a hurry.
He is light on his feet and because he also is a receiver, it is not surprising he
attacked the ball.
ILB
Dejon Harris
Marrero (La.) John Ehret
Recruiting wrap: Arkansas, Arkansas State, Louisiana Tech,
ULM, Memphis, Oregon,
Southern Miss, Troy, Tulane and Western Kentucky have extended Harris offers.
Performance: Inside linebackers face a little bit of a disadvantage in a camp
setting, but Harris showed why so many
programs are taking a long look at his skillset. He showed good lateral
quickness. He has a stout build and he displayed nice footwork during drills.
S
Bryan Henderson
Mesquite (Texas)
Recruiting wrap: Henderson has yet to receive his first scholarship offer.
Performance: Henderson was one of the more consistent guys on the day. He is not
the biggest safety of the bunch at 5-foot-10 and 195 pounds but he always seemed to be there to make a play.
He had a few pass breakups during one-on-ones and he made some nice plays
during the 7-on-7 period.
ILB
Giovanni LaFrance
New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine
Recruiting wrap: LaFrance has grabbed offers from Arkansas State,
California, ULM,
Oklahoma State, Southern Miss, Texas Tech, Troy, Tulane and Western Kentucky.
Performance: LaFrance is a stout inside linebacker with explosive power.
Coverage is not necessarily his strong suit, but he showed he was more than
capable. He was very solid in drills early in the day. He displayed impressive footwork and he also had a smooth transition into coverage.
CB
Logan Latin
Houston (Texas) Lamar
Recruiting wrap: Latin is receiving interest from Texas State,
Houston and SMU
at this time.
Performance: Latin is not the biggest - he checks in at
5-foot-9 and 170 pounds - but there is no doubt about what he
brings to the table. He plays with excellent technique and he is strong enough
to take on the larger receivers. He has quick feet and he was able to get in the hip pocket of receiver after receiver. He also showed some nice ball skills and had a few PBUs.
DQB
Rondle Johnson
Houston (Texas) Houston Christian
Recruiting wrap: Johnson is waiting for his first offer, but he has received
interest from Texas Tech and Houston. He is also interested in Oklahoma.
Performance: Johnson had a steady performance on Saturday. He kept the ball high
and threw with accuracy. His ball may not have the most velocity on it at times, but he was more than able to get the job done Saturday.
OLB
Keeath Magee II
Petal (Miss.)
Recruiting wrap: Magee has received some attention from Louisiana-Lafayette, but
he has yet to receive his first scholarship offer.
Performance: Magee definitely looks the part. He has a very solid build and he
was always at the front of the line looking for reps. During drills he was always at the front of the line ready to show what he could do. He has the footwork and the instincts that help him in coverage.
DQB
Dakota Michaels
Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy
Recruiting wrap: Michaels does not yet have a scholarship offer.
Performance: Michaels is not the biggest guy in the group, but he was probably
the most mechanically sound quarterback on hand in Houston. He had a short, quick delivery and the ball jumped out of his hands. He threw a very good ball with some nice zip on it and he threw with accuracy.
S
Larry Parks Jr.
Waco (Texas) Midway
Recruiting wrap: Parks is waiting for his first scholarship offer
Performance: Parks was one of the bigger playmakers of the day. During
7-on-7 action he came through with a nice interception. He also fared
well during one-on-one competition and position drills. His feet were
quick and he was explosive out of his break. He used those abilities to get a
hand in the face of his opponents.
WR
Joseph Ward
Waco (Texas) Midway
Recruiting wrap: Ward is waiting for his first scholarship offer.
Performance: Ward may not be the biggest of the bunch, but he showed off his
quick feet. He has quick-change ability which allows him to get in and out of
his break and he has a nice burst to create separation.
CB
Caesar Williams
Grand Prairie (Texas) South Grand
Prairie
Recruiting wrap: Williams has an offer from Texas State and is receiving
interest from several other college programs.
Performance: Williams has nice length for a defensive back. At
6-foot-1 and 170 pounds, Williams has a long wingspan and he is able to make up ground when someone does have a step on him. He was one of the stronger competitors on the day and was always ready to go.
