The Virginia Tech Hokies have been beating teams on the field this season in the ACC and are also doing a great job competing off the field for recruits. Their latest commitment was a one-time FSU verbal.

"I committed to Virginia Tech," said Newnan, Ga. defensive tackle Sergio Render, who also plays along the offensive line. "I wanted to play defense in college and Virginia Tech is going to give me that chance. FSU wanted me for offense so I decided against that."
Render, a 6-foot-3, 302-pounder, was supposed to visit Arkansas this weekend and was also interested in Ole Miss and South Carolina. However, he decided the time was right for a commitment.
"The Ole Miss coaching thing fell apart, South Carolina has a new staff and all along I felt comfortable with the Virginia Tech coaches," he said. "They are solid people and my uncle is close with coach Ward who is my recruiting coach. With all the things going on with the other schools, Tech just kept on winning and recruiting hard."
Newnan is ranked as the No. 7 offensive center in the country and No. 27 on the Georgia pre-season list. However, he can't wait to play some defense at Tech.
"I love playing on the defensive side of the ball," he said. "It's just a lot more fun and physical."
The Hokies are also expecting more good news this evening as Atlanta (Ga.) Douglass running back James Davis is rumored to be picking Tech over many others on a local TV show.
