Hedstrom makes his final college choice

Mount Prospect, Ill. three star ranked offensive lineman recruit Eric Hedstrom (6-foot-6, 265 pounds) decided to end his recruiting process tonight, and Hedstrom picked up the phone and gave Purdue University and head coach Joe Tiller his verbal commitment.

“I decided to end my recruiting process tonight," Hedstrom said. "I called head coach Joe Tiller and gave the Boilermakers my verbal commitment. I sat and talked with my family about this, and they are completely supportive of my decision."

Hedstrom talked why he decided to become the latest member of the Boilermakers.

"Purdue in the end was just a great fit for me. I really decided a few weeks ago that I was ready to commit to the Boilermakers, but I wanted to take some time and think everything through before I made the phone call. I called the other schools that offered me and thanked them for their interest. Those were some really hard calls to make, but now I'm very relieved to have made my final college choice. I'm a solid verbal commit to Purdue."

So why did Hedstrom choose Purdue?

"I really like the coaches as well as the players, and I really felt at home on my official visit. Purdue is far enough away from home, yet it's also close enough for my family to see me play as well. When I looked at everything from the academic standpoint as well as the football aspect, it's really was a no brainer for me. Purdue has one of the best engineering schools around, and overall I know I'll get a great education at Purdue. Plus the football program has been a consistent winner, and I'm really excited about my decision."

Rich Hedstrom, Eric's father echoed his son's feelings towards the Boilermakers.

"I'm very happy with Eric's decision to give Purdue his verbal commitment. Head coach Joe Tiller is a class act along with the rest of his staff. I really feel that Purdue is the best overall fit for Eric, and I'm very proud of how Eric went about making his final college decision."
