Miami was once the solid leader to land 2018 four-star Gregory Rousseau. The Hialeah (Fla.) Champagnat Catholic High School athlete earned an offer at the Hurricanes’ camp this summer and nearly committed on the spot. These days, however, things have changed.

Miami is now joined at the top of his list by three other schools. The race to land the 6-foot-5 prospect’s commitment, it seems, has tightened.

“I don’t think I really have a leader anymore,” Rousseau said on Tuesday. “It’s even between four teams. It’s Miami, LSU, USC and Iowa State.”

Then, there’s the wildcard. Rousseau has never been shy about his affinity for Florida State. The Seminoles remain interested but have yet to extend a scholarship offer. Should that happen, however, it would make an impact. That much has been clear for some time.

“If they offered me, they would be at the top for me,” Rousseau said. “There’s no doubt.”

Rousseau’s most recent offer arrived from LSU, about which he’s admittedly is still learning. That said, the South Florida-based standout likes what he’s heard from the Tigers thus far.

“They said that if I come in there, I could play early,” Rousseau said. “They told me I’m the No. 1 defensive end-slash-linebacker they are recruiting in 2018. I’m a priority for them.”

The No. 235 athlete in the country, Rousseau holds offers as a defensive back, linebacker and wide receiver. He says he has no preference on which position he plays at the next level and will do whatever he needs to do to see the field early and help the college of his choice.

IN HIS WORDS: “I’m probably going to go to a Florida State game this season because they send me a lot of invites. I try to get to every Miami game that I can. I want to go see LSU for a game later in the season, but we’ll see.”

RIVALS REATION: Rousseau’s top four includes Iowa State, which is a bit of a surprise. Miami and LSU seem like the frontrunners to land his pledge, but few things are certain at this early juncture. Everything could change in an instant, should Florida State offer a scholarship. A committable offer from the Seminoles could effectively end Rousseau’s recruitment.
