Gilchrist solid with Huskies

Four-star cornerback Isaiah Gilchrist came off the board last month in surprising fashion, but he is confident he made the right decision.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound prospect from Bellevue, Wash., planned to take some official visits before arriving at a choice, but he didn't wait and committed to hometown Washington while on a visit to campus the second weekend of the season.
Most schools have since backed off, but Gilchrist admitted Arizona State is still pushing for him to visit the desert and the physical defensive back didn't completely rule out other trips.
Still, the No. 3-rated prospect in the Evergreen State said he is ecstatic to be a Husky and was thrilled to see the road victory against USC last week.

IN HIS WORDS: "I grew up watching U-Dub and I was thinking of trying to take officials during the season, but U-Dub is my place," Gilchrist told Rivals.com. "I'm still hearing from stuff from Arizona State, but it has died down quite a bit.
"At Washington, there are freshmen and sophomores playing and they won a big game at USC that obviously has the recruits excited. It's like that now and when we have juniors and seniors there, it's going to be ridiculous. I know U Dub is on the rise and especially the next couple years they're going to be looking to be a national championship caliber team."
RIVALS' REACTION: Hanging onto an in-state prospect like Gilchrist is important for head coach Chris Petersen and staff as they continue to build their program. They obviously intend to go into bordering states -- especially California -- but keeping most of the Seattle-based recruits from leaving town for college should continue to be a major priority.
