The Latest: Minnesota has made three-star Georgia wide receiver Javan Hawes one of it's prime targets at the wide receiver position in the 2017 class. That means extra time and attention from the school's staff and plenty of love from the fan base as well. Next month, Hawes is about to pay some of that attention back. The speedy prospect will make a trip north for an unofficial visit to see the Golden Gophers campus up close and if all goes well, he could leave campus with a clear leader for his services. Rivals.com caught up with Hawes to get the latest on his recruitment and what he's expecting from his trip north.
In His Words: "Minnesota was one of the first schools to offer me. Before a lot of other schools came in. I like their spread offense and they told me I can be a deep threat for them. They've been recruiting me hard. They hit me up every day and show me a lot of love, I like it. The visit is set up for next month after the dead period ends. I can't wait to see campus on this visit. I want to see everything they have to offer. I'm planning on going back for an official visit in the fall, too, so I can see the game day atmosphere and everything like that. My family is going with me on the trip but I have family that lives up there so that's good for me, too. My grandmother on my mom's side lives in Minnesota, she would like it for me to go up there. I grew up in Ohio so I'm not afraid of the weather or anything like that."
Rivals Reaction: It's clear that Minnesota is a major player for Hawes, but other schools continue to enter the mix. He's also planning visits to Purdue, Miami (Ohio) and Appalachian State, so after the visits the forecast for his future could start to come into focus.
