The Associated Press headline said that Georgia Tech “stuns” Florida State in the season opener Saturday in Dublin.

For many Yellow Jackets commits - while welcome - the victory over the Seminoles was not shocking. Instead, it was maybe a little expected from what they’ve seen out of coach Brent Key and his staff and how they’re rebuilding the program.

“I wasn’t surprised at all,” quarterback commit Grady Adamson said.

“The culture the staff is building and instilling in the players is changing the program. The ‘25 class is also showing everyone the caliber Georgia Tech will be moving forward. Everyone believes in the coaches and the system and that leads to great success.”

Three-star defensive back commit Jayden Barr said: “It wasn’t a surprise. When I visited Georgia Tech the coaches made it clear the were rebuilding last year and they’re really trying to make a run this year so there are plenty more wins against major teams coming and knowing we have the ability to beat big teams coming as a freshman only motivates me to give my all to contribute to the program. The next few years will be GT on top, believe that.”

Three-star running back commit Isaiah Groves said: “It was an amazing win, especially how dominant we were at the line of scrimmage. You can tell there has already been a culture change.”

To outsiders, it was a little surprising.

Georgia Tech won at the line of scrimmage especially pushing around Florida State’s defensive line. The Yellow Jackets drastically limited the Seminoles’ offensive attack in numerous ways.

No running back had more than 38 yards. Florida State didn’t rush for 100 yards. Quarterback DJ Uiagalelei didn’t throw a touchdown pass. After scoring an early touchdowns in the first quarter, the Seminoles didn’t get back into the end zone until midway through the fourth.

For Georgia Tech pledges, it was great to see.

“Expected a W and expect many more to come,” three-star OL commit Jimmy Bryson said.

Four-star athlete Dalen Penson said: “It was a showing of what Georgia Tech is about to become. It was just a statement that is going to show the world Georgia Tech is on the come up.”

Things are good for Georgia Tech, which landed a commitment from four-star defensive tackle Christian Garrett on Monday after recently backing off a pledge to Georgia.

Momentum needs to continue though.

Last season, after beating Wake Forest, Georgia Tech lost its next game to Bowling Green by double digits. After taking down Miami, the Yellow Jackets dropped their next matchup to Boston College by 15.

Georgia Tech plays a game Georgia State team led by first-year coach Dell McGee this weekend and, once again, the commits will be watching.

"We are trending in the right direction as a program,” said four-star receiver commit Samuel Turner, who Auburn is trying to flip. “Definitely excited and pumped up for the season. Just got to be consistent.”
