THE LATEST: Ole Miss came in with a late offer to Tahj Williams, a 2018 linebacker out of Homerville (Ga.) Clinch County. A little over a month after helping his team to a state title, Williams picked up his first SEC offer and the Rebels have been on him hard since.
They sent numerous coaches to see him this week and Ole Miss has made the 6-foot-1, 210 pound tackling machine feel like a priority over the last week to week and a half. If they continue the momentum this weekend, then Williams could be calling Oxford home in the future.
IN HIS OWN WORDS: "The whole defensive staff and head coach Matt Luke came in earlier this week to see me and it was great," said Williams. "I like the coaches a lot and they are cool guys. I feel like they like me as a player, that they trust me to help them if I go there and I like them a lot.
"Coach McGriff texts me every day and he lets me know what is going on, how he likes me and how he sees me playing there in the future. He lets me know they are in desperate need of linebackers and that he could see me helping in blitz packages next year.
"I will be out there this weekend and this visit is big for me. It is less than a week from signing day and this will be my first visit out there, so it is big. It is an SEC offer, so it is a big offer for me and I want to see how things go. I want to see if it like a family out there when I am on campus.
"Ole Miss would be at the top of my list right now, so it really depends on how this visit goes for me. If I like it out there, then there is a real chance that I end up there."
RIVALS REACTION: Williams recently received the test score he needed to project as a qualifier. If he had that test score earlier and would have been seen at camps last year, then his offer list would be a lot longer. But recruits can only sign with one school, so it only takes one offer and Ole Miss came in with one last week. It changed things quickly for Williams and the Rebels are in a good spot with less than a week to go before Signing Day.
