Garnett back in action

West Monroe (La.) linebacker Layton Garnett saw his varsity career get off to an impressive start as sophomore in 2013 as an intimidating presence in the middle of the Rebels defense. Then an ankle injury sidelined him for the 2014 season and significantly slowed his recruiting process.
The 6-2.5, 255-pound defender did not sit back and sulk though. He went to work and an impressive summer and a healthy ankle have college programs once again taking a long look at his talents.

At the end of July his performance at defensive end at the LSU camp caught the attention of the Tigers' coaching staff, and the two parties have stayed in touch.
"They told me they've already sent out a lot of offers and if they had one to give they would," Garnett said. "Gut for right now they're considering a preferred walk-on spot if I'm willing to do that. That's kind of what I've gotten."
The Tigers are interested but another in-state program is currently showing the most interest of all of his college options.
"ULL is probably the one that's more on me," Garnett said. "They're just saying they want to see three games as a cumulative highlight and they're going to offer me if they like what they see."
In addition to the in-state programs, Garnett is also receiving interest from Memphis and TCU, and he is receiving interest at a few different positions.
"A lot of these schools now are considering me for a fullback job," Garnett said. "Some of them want me as a linebacker, some of them want me as a defensive end, and some of them want me at fullback."
Garnett will play defensive end as a senior at West Monroe and he also took reps at tight end at a Memphis camp. Most of his experience is at linebacker, but Garnett is ready to do whatever it takes to get on the field.
"I'll play anywhere and I think I can play where they want me to," Garnett said. "So I really don't mind. It's whatever they tell me."
Right now Garnett does not have any visit plans but mentioned LSU, ULL, and TCU as unofficial visit possibilities during the 2015 football season.
