From the Road: Texas

Recruiting Wrap: Castille has a top five of Memphis, Texas State, Tulsa, UConn, and Nevada with New Mexico State also in the mix. Tulsa is expected to receive a December official visit.
Performance: Castille just makes plays. He is a quick, versatile talent with a great feel for the game. He runs crisp routes and has the speed to stretch the field. He also has sure hands and a finds the ball really well. He is a guy Rockwall tries to get in space and he routinely makes the first guy miss before picking up yards after the catch. He is not the biggest guy but he does have a strong build. On Saturday he recorded 13 receptions for 211 yards and three touchdowns.

DT
Zach Edwards
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Recruiting Wrap: Edwards has received interest from Texas State, UTSA, and Sam Houston State. He is waiting for his first offer.
Performance: The 6-2, 270-pound defensive tackle made his presence known quickly in the middle of the Steele defense. He was a consistent presence in the offensive backfield, but he played his assignment as well. His quick first step and strong hands allowed him to get inside position on his opponent. He came off the ball low and he was able to shed blockers as needed. In addition to his defensive tackle duties he was also Steele's deep snapper and was routinely one of the first guys down in punt coverage. He was a big reason why the MacArthur offense was kept off balance on Thursday night.

RB
Chris Warren
Rockwall (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Warren has a top five of Oregon, Washington, Stanford, Texas, and Texas Tech and he plans to make his final decision on Signing Day.
Performance: Rockwall does a great job of getting Warren the ball in a variety of ways, whether he is coming out of the backfield or lined up as a receiver. Warren is definitely versatile for a big guy and he is faster than you think. He shows some nimble footwork for a big back as well. He is more of a smooth athletic back than he is a pound it down the field kind of guy and he has a tendency to get east and west instead of finding his way north and south. His day ended early with a slight injury but not before he carried 25 times for 164 yards and two touchdowns.

OG
Zach Shackelford (2016)
Belton (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Shackelford holds an offer from Kansas State and he has taken unofficial visits to Kansas State, Texas, and Arizona State. He plans to visit Baylor and TCU in the near future.
Performance: Shackelford is a big boy out there at the left tackle spot for Belton and he is one nasty player. He loves to mix it up in the trenches and he had no problem doing the job on Saturday. He is a little heavy footed and projects more inside than he does at tackle, but he does have some long arms and plays with good technique. He also plays with a smile on his face while he grinds his opponent.

DE
Charles Omenihu
Rowlett (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Omenihu committed to Texas but recently took an official visit to Arizona State. He has maintained he is firmly committed to Texas though.
Performance: Omenihu is long and lean right now and has some room to grow. On Saturday his name was called many many times as he made plays all over the field. He did a good job of working his hands and maintains good leverage which can be an issue with those long guys at times. He played disciplined football on the day and showed a nice ability to get off blocks and make his way through traffic to the ball carrier.
7
DT
Jaylen Veasley
Rockwall (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Veasley holds offers from Tennessee State, Stephen F. Austin, ULM, Sam Houston State, Abilene Christian, and Northwestern State.
Performance: Aggressive, high motor, athletic - these are all words often used to describe Veasley. He is a bit on the small side at defensive tackle but he is a strong candidate for a three tech defensive tackle. He is very active in the middle of the defense and he has the ability to chase down plays on the edges of the field. He worked in at fullback as well and he had some big time blocks to open up holes for Rockwall's running backs on Saturday.
8
DE
Breylin Mitchell
Round Rock (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Mitchell is committed to the TCU Horned Frogs.
Performance: Mitchell faced multiple blockers on Friday night but that did not stop him from making an impact. He did give up his numbers a little too often and he often found himself chest to chest with whoever he was facing. Still, he was able to get consistent pressure in the offensive backfield and he closed the game with a sack.
9
RB
Bryson Denley (2016)
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Recruiting Wrap: Denley holds offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Illinois, and UCLA, and he is also receiving interest from Oklahoma, Oregon, TCU, Oklahoma State, and LSU. He listed Oklahoma as an early standout.
Performance: It was definitely a good night for Denley. He averaged over 12 yards a carry, rushed for 190 yards, and had three touchdowns on the ground. However, he does like to tip toe a little too much, and at times he was a little too patient in the running game. He has great top end speed and he ran away from the defense on several occasions but he did miss a few running lanes and he did not show off his top end explosiveness.
10
DE
Mark Jackson (2016)
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Recruiting Wrap: Jackson holds offers from Oklahoma, Texas, Texas Tech, and Baylor, and he has been receiving serious interest from UCLA, Texas A&M, and Alabama.
Performance: The Rivals250 defensive end is known for his speed off the edge and the MacArthur offense definitely knew where he was on the field. He dips his shoulder and gets a quick edge on his opponent as he makes his way into the backfield. He comes off the ball quick and low, he gets great extension from his opponent, and he plays with strong leverage. He was able to record three sacks during the game.
11
QB
Manny Harris
Copperas Cove (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Harris is committed to UTSA.
Performance: Harris had a solid performance in a game which was closer than the final score indicated. He was on target for most of the day and he delivered some nice deep throws. He threw with accuracy and touch, completing 23 of his 35 passes for 358 yards and 4 touchdowns. He keeps the ball high and he gets the ball to his receiver quick.
12
OT
Tyler Castaneda (2017)
Round Rock (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Castaneda has committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders. His brother Robert is currently on the Red Raider football team.
Performance: Mean and aggressive is how Castaneda likes to play in the trenches. He is right guard and he is already a big guy and strong. He packs a powerful punch and gets a strong leg drive. He looks to drive his guy into the dirt and he often does. He had a solid night as the Round Rock Dragons topped Westlake 16-14.
13
LB
Hudson Hall
Austin (Texas) Westlake
Recruiting Wrap: Hall holds an offer from San Diego State.
Performance: There was not a more active player for the Westlake Chaparrals on Friday night. He was all over the field. He plays very smart and shows knack for fighting though traffic on his way to making a tackle. He worked well from his inside backer position and he also came in to help out as a power back. Overall it was a very strong performance.
14
DT
Kendell Jones (2016)
Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker
Recruiting Wrap: Jones has the attention of schools across the country with offers from Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, and LSU.
Performance: There are few guys who immediately draw attention like Jones. He walks onto the field and heads quickly turn. When the play starts he is like a bull in a china shop. His technique is not quite refined but there is no doubt he is a disruptive force. He saw double and triple teams on Saturday and still was able to get consistent penetration. He's a bit stiff but his strength is too much for most offensive linemen to handle. He makes going tough in the middle for any offense.
15
LB
Jaylen Waters
Copperas Cove (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Waters is committed to Minnesota.
Performance: Waters worked both sides of the football on Saturday. He was Copperas Cove's hammer in short yardage situations and put two first half touchdowns on the board. He finished the day with five carries for five yards and two touchdowns. On defense he was a constant presence in the middle. He is a big guy with a nose for the football. He was in on tackles and around the football all day long for the Bulldogs on Saturday.
16
CB
Brian Bullock (2016)
Round Rock (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Bullock holds an offer from Texas State and interest from TCU, Oklahoma, Purdue, and Stanford.
Performance: On Friday night Bullock had his hands full, but he handled it very well. He has a solid build and is a big defensive back. He likes to get physical with his opponent and he has the speed to make up ground. He was able to come up with some big pass break-ups including one late in the game to keep Westlake out of field goal position.
17
OT
Terrence Steele
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Recruiting Wrap: Steele is solidly committed to the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Performance: The future Red Raider has some nice size and is an aggressive lineman in the trenches. He likes to mix it up and he works hard to get to pick up second and third blocks. He does get a bit off balance and loses his base at times but those are correctable. Additionally, he's a bit of a waist bender and plays high as well which he will need to work on. All of that said he helped pave the way for a big offensive night for Steele and he has some nice tools to work with as he continues to develop.
18
DE
Tyrell Thompson
Copperas Cove (Texas)
Recruiting Wrap: Thompson is committed to Houston.
Performance: Thompson had a solid performance on the interior of the Copperas Cove line. He was able to create pressure in the Rockwall backfield. He uses those long arms to get good extension and plays with leverage. He gets good inside position on his guys and is able to work his way down the line. He is projected as a strongside defensive end but he has the ability to play both on the college level.
19
QB
L.G. Williams
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Recruiting Wrap: Williams committed to Texas State before the start of the football season.
Performance: Williams is on the short side for a quarterback but he can sling the ball around the yard. On Thursday night he had some good and bad moments. He completed eight of his 16 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns and he also showed off the wheels with 51 yards and a touchdown on six carries.
20
LB
Breckyn Hager
Austin (Texas) Westlake
Recruiting Wrap: Hager is committed to the Texas Longhorns.
Performance: Hager projects more as a linebacker, but he spent his time at defensive end. He had some moments. He showed some nice quickness as he knifed through the offensive line a few times, but he dropped his head and went right past the ball carrier a few times. He has some size and athletic ability to work with and will be an intriguing prospect to watch as he grows and matures under Charlie Strong.
OTHER PROSPECTS
DT
Joshua Croslen (2017)
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Croslen is a guy to watch on the inside. He has a quick first step and has really stepped up as a sophomore for the Steele defense. He stepped in after an injury and he showed why coaches feel he has a chance to be special. He is explosive off the ball and comes off low. He was able to generate quite a bit of pressure on Thursday against MacArthur.
QB
Sam Ehlinger (2017)
Austin (Texas) Westlake
Ehlinger showed off a quick release as he spread the ball around on Friday night. He was also able to push the ball down the field. He threw the ball with touch and velocity and he did a good job of putting his receivers in position to make a play after the catch.
RB
Travell Lumpkin (2017)
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Lumpkin is a hard running sophomore. He runs angry and great leg drive. He picks up those tough yards and he was a nice change of pace to Bryson Denley. He finished the night with 11 carries for 85 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a 32 yard reception. He may not have the top end speed of Denley but he showed great burst.
DE
James Lynch (2017)
Round Rock (Texas)
Lynch made his way into the rotation a few times on Friday night and he made an impact. He does a good job of holding the edge and fighting through blocks to make tackles. He also showed well on special teams as he came down field on the kickoff team.
QB
Xavier Martin (2017)
Cibolo (Texas) Steele
Martin spent time at wide receiver and quarterback on Thursday. He started at receiver and he showed himself to be a willing blocker to open up the sideline or down the field. At quarterback he was mainly a running threat but he definitely has some nice size.
