Fowler in demand

Manor (Texas) 2016 Rivals100 linebacker Erick Fowler has quickly become a priority target for college coaches across the country. He has taken a few college visits, but he has also kept an open mind to his college options to this early point in the process.
Offers have arrived from UCLA, Baylor, Kentucky, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon State, TCU, Texas, and Texas State, and he has been paying close attention to the college football season. Over the weekend he did not take any visits, but he was watching a few games.

"I was watching LSU and Alabama," Fowler said. "I was watching UCLA and Washington. I watched Texas and West Virginia. TCU, I watched TCU."
TCU and Baylor have both turned heads on the national scene in 2014 and Fowler has taken notice. He looked on as the two battled it out, and he has continued to keep a close eye on both programs.
"I just like teams who like competition," Fowler said. "I like teams who will not give up without a fight and that's exactly what they've been doing. If they lose they gave it their all still. They didn't just lay down."
Fowler has taken visits to TCU, Oklahoma, Baylor, and Texas over the last few months, and his last trip was to check out the Texas Longhorn program. Texas offered in September and the Longhorns have continued to keep in touch.
"With Texas I haven't really talked to them in person or one-on-one yet, but I've been getting a ton of letters," Fowler said. "They sent me like 38 letters all at one time."
The interest is hot and heavy on several fronts, but four programs have established strong bonds and are recruiting him the hardest.
"Man," Fowler said, "Baylor of course, UCLA, OU, and TCU."
While the recruiting process has gotten hot, Fowler maintains his focus on the 2014 season.
"Everything is going great for us," Fowler said. "We're building for next year now. We're in the playoffs now and we'll try and do our best. Hopefully we'll go far.
"I've actually been focused on outside linebacker more than D-end. The pass rush is still there but it can always get better. I'm just working on dropping back so I can do it all."
Fowler and the Manor Mustangs take on Bryan in the first round of the playoffs on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. in Manor.
