Four-star DE Colton Vasek speaks on rumors around Oklahoma commitment

DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas — Austin (Texas) Westlake four-star defensive lineman Colton Vasek has been at the center of a lot of Twitter buzz in recent weeks as the Oklahoma commit maintains communication with other programs, especially Texas.

After a big win on Friday night against district foe Dripping Springs, Vasek said that he is talking to Steve Sarkisian, Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski and more staff members as he followed up Friday's win with a visit to Texas on Saturday for the Longhorns' game against Iowa State.

"Yes, there has been (communication)," Vasek said. "I talk to them pretty much every week, just staying in contact. I talk to Coach PK, Coach Sark, a lot of them." Vasek requested to not elaborate further on his communication with the Longhorns.

As for Oklahoma, Vasek still holds a ton of belief in Brent Venables and Oklahoma defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis.

"I still 100-percent believe in Coach Chavis and Coach Venables," he said. "Obviously it's been tough seeing the outcomes of some of these games, but I still think that they're gonna get it turned around. It's definitely gonna take some rebuilding, so we'll see how that plays out."

That rebuilding has been communicated to Vasek, as when asked about if he sees a better opportunity to play early in Norman than he did six weeks ago, his answer was simple.

"100-percent," he said.

At 6-foot-6, 230 pounds, Vasek is the No. 81 ranked recruit in the country for the class of 2023, according to Rivals. He is the No. 7 ranked weakside defensive end in the country and the No. 17 recruit from the state of Texas.
