Four-star DB Kody Jones commits to Michigan

THE SITUATION: Less than a week ago, on January 31, Germantown (Tenn.) defensive back Kody Jones released a top 10. It didn't take long for one school on that list to push to the top of his list, and Michigan did just that over the last few days.

Schools like Memphis, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon and Tennessee are some other schools he strongly considered, but the four-star had a different feeling about the Wolverines.

IN HIS OWN WORDS: "I have been talking to coach Mo (Maurice Linguist) for about three weeks now, and in the last week or so, I really started leaning hard towards Michigan," said Jones.

"I had a talk about it with my family, I have been praying on it, and I knew it was Michigan, so there was no reason to waste anymore time.

"I told coach Mo about my decision first on Thursday during the day. He was excited and he talked to me about how he likes me at cornerback, but that I could play anywhere.

"We really have a great connection, and we both think we think like each other. He called me after only having the job at Michigan for nine minutes. He made me a priority and I knew then this was something special.

"I talked to coach Harbaugh Thursday night, and I think I surprised him. Coach Mo told him I had something to tell him, but I don't think he expected me to commit. When I told him, he was happy, he started yelling, and and he got really excited. He talked about my sophomore film how I could play anywhere on defense or offense and how excited he is to see me play again.

"Michigan has a lot of tradition and I love their uniforms. They had Charles Woodson that won the Heisman Trophy, and it is a great school. They made me feel like a priority and I feel great about my decision."

"Kody has exceptional ball skills, speed and quickness. He can play outside cornerback or nickel on the next level. He is one of the most humble kids, yet confident if that makes sense. He is smart, he works hard and he is only going to get better.
— James Williams, PPA 7v7 coach

RIVALS REACTION: Germantown did not have a season in 2020 due to COVID-19, so we are eager to put eyes on Jones again in 2021. He is an athlete first and foremost. He may project on defense, and he is a versatile defensive back, but he has made a lot of big plays on offense too. He has a nose for the ball as a defender, and he has shown good range on the back-end. You see some physicality to his game, and the instincts stand out as well. Jones is one we will watch closely as he gets back out on the circuit this year, but he is one Michigan fans should be excited about.
