Florida first to offer 2019 DL Jalar Holley

Most first offers come as a surprise and the one from Florida to Jalar Holley was no different.

Gators defensive backs coach Corey Bell was at Buford (Ga.) checking on numerous prospects, and after sizing Holley up, watching him practice and checking out his tape, the offer was extended.

"When coach Bell came by the school, I knew he was interested and then I got the direct message on Twitter from him not long after he was there telling me I have an offer from Florida," said Holley.

It was a surprise to the 6-foot-3, 280 pound junior defensive lineman. The Gators had shown no interest in the past.

"I had not heard anything from Florida in the past and I didn't even know that they knew who I was. It was a complete shock. It really came out of nowhere."

The shock was a good one. He visited the Swamp about 10 years ago for a game with family. He has followed the Gators and he knows about their success in the past.

With his knowledge of Florida football, it makes this offer a little more meaningful to him.

"It was a great feeling to get that first offer and to get it from a school like Florida is pretty cool too," said Holley. "I have family in Florida and some like the Gators, so this is pretty exciting for all of us.

"I like Florida and the way they have won in the past. They always have good players too, so I like that. I know they have had some top defensive linemen. I hope to get down there for one of their games this season."

Holley was at Clemson this past weekend for the Georgia Tech game.
