Five up, two down: West region

McGrew is so fast and so shifty -- plus his small size (5-7, 166) actually helps him because he's not a big target to tackle -- that defenses have such a difficult time slowing him down. The Washington commit can run between the tackles, he has great vision in the hole, or he can bust it outside and linebackers have such a tough time tackling him. McGrew averages nearly 10 yards per carry and by the third quarter he's generally out of games because Bosco is up so big.
UP
OL
Jake Moretti (2017)
Arvada (Colo.) Pomona
The Ohio State commit showed incredibly good feet and flexibility in a game earlier this season, dominating the trenches against two other Power Five prospects. Moretti shined throughout but certainly raised some eyebrows on one remarkable play where he ended 35 yards down field near the goal line looking to pick up blocks. He attacks the second level very well, and given his ability to run block and protect the quarterback, could be considered one of the most versatile lineman in the 2017 class. Other coaches are still trying -- and for good reason -- but Moretti told Rivals.com he's locked in with the Buckeyes.
UP
WR
Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian
The California wide receiver group is absolutely loaded this recruiting cycle and maybe nobody is having a better season than Pittman, who had 38 receptions for 866 yards and 11 touchdowns in Oaks Christian's first five wins. The USC pledge averages about 23 yards per catch and 173 yards per outing. The four-star has excellent size on the outside with outstanding hands and surprising speed, plus he's tough to tackle.
UP
QB
Gardena (Calif.) Serra
Tate is going to get an opportunity to play quarterback at Arizona and he's proven to be a major threat this season. He is so uniquely fast running with the football and he's big and tough to bring down. The four-star is still not perfect throwing the football and has had some miscues but he has a really strong arm and can make all the throws. Not many quarterbacks present the he threat he provides running the football, though. In Serra's first four games, Tate had about 700 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
DOWN
QB
Rancho Santa Margarita (Calif.) Santa Margarita Catholic
Though the upside is still there -- especially from an arm strength standpoint -- Costello has been prone to the same mistakes that were there when he burst onto the scene two years ago as a sophomore. The Stanford commit has had an up-and-down senior season, completing 60 percent of his pass attempts, including a two-week stretch where he went a meager 26 for 55 with two interceptions. A lack of touch has been the biggest knock on Costello, so it should be interesting to see how he performs again in one of the most difficult leagues in the country.
DOWN
QB
Highlands Ranch (Colo.) Valor Christian
McCaffrey was impressive in operating the option read in the game we attended earlier this season, tucking the ball when he could and making plays with his feet, but he struggled a bit throwing down field. He certainly has the athleticism and awareness that makes him a terrific game manager at this stage in his development, but he should probably be lower in the rankings until he proves he can be a top-flight passer. McCaffrey, who has brothers at Duke and Stanford, told Rivals.com he is planning visits to Michigan and UCLA in the coming weeks.
