The Rivals.com Five-Star Academy rolls through Hampton Roads this Saturday at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake, Va., in one of three stops this weekend for the event. Oscar Smith's own head coach Rich Morgan will highlight the day's events to discuss the recruiting process. Plenty of talent will be on hand as well from across the region, West Virginia commitments Tajh Boyd out of Phoebus and Logan Heastie out of Great Bridge will headline a deep group in the southeastern region of Virginia.

Boyd, a 6-foot-1, 195-pounder is coming off a pledge two weeks ago while on a visit to Morgantown. The Rivals250 prospect has shown remarkable skills in the pocket both in his accurate passing and impressive athleticism. Before he even committed, Boyd racked up offers from Boston College, Michigan, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Tech among others.

Meanwhile, Heastie, a 6-foot-2, 181-pounder with impressive sub 4.4-second speed also made a decision with his good friend Boyd two weeks ago. Already one of the top receivers in the nation, rated No. 22 overall in the country, Heastie pulled in offers from Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and numerous others before his pledge.

Not to be overlooked is the once again talent-rich class at the host school, Oscar Smith. Rich Morgan has two players already pulling in offers in wide receiver Timothy Smith, a 6-foot-1, 171-pounder who holds offers from Maryland and West Virginia. He'll be on hand with teammate Jerod Askew, a 6-foot-0, 214-pound linebacker that is nearly up to a half dozen scholarships to date. Also in attendance will be sophomore stud quarterback Phillip Sims, quite possibly the top prospect in the Commonwealth for 2010.

Boyd won't be the only player on hand from perennial power Phoebus, 6-foot-1, 239-pound defensive end Dominik Davenport is expected to make a showing too.

Davenport won't be the only defensive end with an offer in hand at the junior day as Williamsburg (Va.) Lafayette stud end William Hill is also expected. The 6-foot-4, 250-pounder earned all-state honors last season and already holds two offers from Maryland and Virginia.

Tommy Reamon recently left Gloucester, but two of his former players are expected to attend in tight end Josh Lovell, who holds an offer from Virginia, along with wide receiver Ray Harris whose racked up approximately a half dozen scholarships.

Others with offers that are expected to make an appearance on Saturday include Western Branch athlete Javanti Sparrow, Lake Taylor linebacker Mike Privott and Granby linebacker Telvion Clark.

A number of prospects that will likely get noticed during the May evaluation period are also expected to be on hand including Great Bridge receiver Carvin Powell, Hampton running back Tron Martinez, Landstown running back Sterlin Phifer, Bethel running back Jontel Evans, kicker Drew Jarrett, Indian River wide receiver DeAndre White, cornerback William Marable as well as Hertford County, N.C. offensive guard Will Simmons.

In the Peach State

While Athens often becomes the home of some of the top talent in the state of Georgia, there will be more than just Bulldog commits there this weekend. Athens is the site of the Georgia Five-Star Academy on Saturday and there will be loads of talent on hand.

One of the headliners of the event is Jamal Patterson out of McDonough (Ga.) Henry County. The four-star prospect with great size recently picked up an offer from Florida State, bringing his offer total to 24 schools. Patterson will be joined by some of Georgia's best, such as Flower Branch defensive end Izaan Cross and Columbus Carver linebacker LeRon Furr, younger brother to Auburn signee DeRon Furr.

It is only fitting that an event held at the University of Georgia campus also includes some Georgia commits. There is expected to be at least two future Bulldogs on hand in linebacker Chase Vasser and offensive guard Chris Burnette who recently confirmed his spot on the roster for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

West Coast stop</

The Rivals.com Five-Star Academy will make its second stop in California this weekend with an event at Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland. While many consider it a down year in Northern California, there are still plenty of prospects that are expected to attend.

The top 2009 prospect likely will be San Francisco Sacred Heart Cathedral back Dasarte Yarnway. The 6-foot, 212-pounder rushed for 1,308 yards and 16 scores in 2007. He already has a scholarship offer from Washington State, but has plenty of big boys looking at him, including Cal, Florida, Georgia Tech, Michigan, Oregon, USC and Wake Forest.

One of the nation's top 2010 prospects will also be in attendance.

Bishop O'Dowd linebacker/defensive end Chris Martin is already drawing rave reviews from college coaches and there are whispers that he might be the first serious five-star candidate from the Bay Area in more than five years. Martin is already listed at 6 feet 5 and 220 pounds, and we'll know more about what his top schools are after Saturday.

While some say it might be a slightly down year in Northern California, there are always some great sleepers that emerge in the spring evaluation process, and Saturday's event is expected to bring some of those sleepers to the forefront.
