Five Star Thomas Herring has favorites

There is no question that Thomas Herring (6-7, 287, 4.8) from Los Angeles (Calif.) will be one of the nation’s most sought after football prospects at any position. How many guys to you know the possess Herring’s size and speed? Those two tangibles alone would rank Herring near the top of this year’s recruiting class.
Herring has the talent to make an impact on the collegiate level at three positions. He could end up playing tight end, offensive tackle or defensive end in college.

“Some schools are recruiting me as a tight end while other schools are recruiting me as a defensive end,” Herring said.
It has been reported that Herring prefers playing defensive end in college.
Florida State, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, USC and UCLA are Herring’s top eight.
Are there any schools that are standing out for Herring?
“Miami and USC are just a little ahead,” Herring said. “But is really too close to call.”
“Miami has always been my dream school,” Herring said. “The Hurricanes were the team that I watched when I was growing up. I love Miami’s team speed.”
“I talked to (Miami) head coach (Larry) Coker told me he wants me to play defensive end,” Herring said. “The offensive coordinator (Rob Chudzinski) said that he lost the battle that was waged between him and the defensive coordinator (Randy Shannon). He (Chudzinski) wanted me to be his tight end.”
“With USC I like their defense and the Trojans are recruiting me as a tight end,” Herring said. “I’ve been to USC quite a bit and I interact with the coaching staff quite well.”
The other schools in the mix also have a shot with Herring. More than likely Herring is going to take official visits before he decides on what school he will attend.
Herring was selected all-league and all-area as a tight end for his junior season performance after catching 28 passes and scoring three touchdowns as a junior.
Defensively Herring had ten sacks as a defensive end.
