James Cook’s commitment to Florida State was old and most expected it to last. After all, his brother Dalvin became a star in Tallahassee. The five-star running back had been wavering on his pledge for weeks, however, and, on Independence Day, Cook declared his independence from FSU by backing off his pledge.

The announcement came via tweet.

Cook, who plays his high school football at Miami Central, has recently visited Georgia and has plans to tour USC this fall. And while the Trojans and Bulldogs seem to be the most logical landing spots, it’s tough to know for certain what might be next.

Georgia recently landed another five-star back in Zamir White, a North Carolina product. USC seems to be the easiest path to early playing time for Cook, who has said such a thing is a priority in the past.

Cook is ranked as the No. 3 running back and the No. 16 overall prospect in the class of 2018.
