Five-star narrows his list to five

The recruitment of Detroit Cass Tech wide receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones has come down to five schools who will battle over the next two months. The five-star prospect announced his finalists Sunday afternoon.

WHAT’S NEXT

Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State make the cut. Peoples-Jones is a mid-year enrollee candidate, which does not allow for much more time to make a decision. On top of that, his Cass Tech team is undefeated and onto the second round of the state playoffs. As long as they keep winning, games will be played on Saturdays through Thanksgiving weekend, which would eliminate the month of November for official visits. Peoples-Jones has taken two official visits thus far – to Nebraska on Sept. 2 and Ohio State on Oct. 7 – and reported Sunday night that he has not scheduled any further official visits.

IN HIS WORDS

“(It was) very difficult cutting it down. I could see myself playing at all of the universities in my top 10. The top 5 list I released just further satisfied my academic and athletic goals.”

RIVALS’ REACTION

There were no real surprise omissions in Peoples-Jones’ top five, which means we do not get much more clarification on where this very hard-to-read recruitment is headed. The most confidence rests with the Michigan fan base, but an argument can be made for each of the other four schools. Florida is his childhood favorite. Ohio State just hosted him on an official visit and has three former Technicians on the roster. Michigan State is home-state and provides a lot of familiarity. Florida State may be the longest shot, but they are also expected to receive one of his final official visits, which gives the Seminoles a fighting chance.
