Five-star CB Denver Harris reveals Texas A&M commitment

Denver Harris has remained a polarizing figure among 2022 recruits. Often soft-spoken with difference-making talent on the field, the five-star cornerback has finally made his mind up.

The nation’s No. 12 overall recruit is staying home. Harris, in one of the late-developing storylines in this cycle, committed and signed with Texas A&M. That’s another five-star for the Aggies, who also hold pledges from five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart and top-100 in-state talents like Conner Weigman, Chris Marshall and Bobby Taylor.

During this signing window, Texas A&M is closed with a bang reeling in not only Harris, but Rivals100 lineman Kam Dewberry, flipping Georgia DB Marquis Groves-Killibrew and adding defensive linemen Anthony Lucas and Enai White. Harris inked on Wednesday but waited until after North Shore's Class 6A Division I state championship game against Duncanville to publicize his decision.

Harris is the nation’s No. 2-ranked cornerback and the No. 3 player in Texas behind only five-star Austin Westlake quarterback Cade Klubnik and offensive tackle Kelvin Banks.

IN HIS OWN WORDS

"The Aggies are in my top four for some of the same reasons as Texas ... it's close to home, it's a great university and they’ve been doing a tremendous job with recruitment and improving on the field as well," Harris previously told Rivals. "They’ve definitely had a heavy presence in the Houston area lately, which is great knowing the amount of talent we have in the city. Coach (Jimbo) Fisher and Coach (TJ) Rushing are really cool and I definitely think highly of both. From the very first time I met Coach Jimbo, he had me sold. I definitely believe in everything he says and I know he’s genuine and wants the best for all of his players ... and he has a track record that speaks for itself. There aren’t too many coaches that have won multiple national championships and put countless amounts of players in the NFL. Again, I can’t speak enough about what they’ve been able to do in College Station, but it’s definitely something special and they’ve got a bunch of guys I’d love playing with."

"I like Jimbo (Fisher). I talk to Coach (TJ) Rushing," he added before the season on the Aggies. "He calls me before every game and he's slight with it. He doesn't have to call me; he knows I'm gonna watch the game, watch the highlights. We have a chill relationship."

RIVALS REACTION

Harris was an immediate-impact defensive back in the secondary rotation for state champion Galena Park (Texas) North Shore as a freshman and quickly established himself as a dominant cornerback as a took over as a starter a season later.

Over the past three seasons, Harris has been a model of consistency at the position. He has verified 4.39 speed (at Alabama camp) that translates well to tight-man coverage and closing speed on the perimeter. Harris is fluid dropping back and punishes ball-carriers underneath. He is also one of the top ball-hawking defensive backs at the position with multiple-interception campaigns and District Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior.

Harris bounced back well from offseason ACL surgery and was flying around the ball during a mid-season in-person evaluation. He’s physical defending the run and equally up to the task on the back end in coverage. He’s blends size, speed and instincts and is another cornerstone piece in the Aggies’ 2022 class.
